Tim: the larger trap I made from the wine box has a simple rope handle -- 2 holes drilled up top with  6" rope loop secured with a knot on each end.  Safe, easily replaceable, and sure handy when you carry the filled trap, especially if you are also lugging a rifle and a range box.

THANKS TOMMY!! Now thats the kind of feed back I NEED!! Was thinking today about a wood carry handle,, kinda labor intensive. Your Idea ROCKS!! I have made rope handles before,, Why did I not think of that?? Your the BEST Tommy,, THANKS soooo much,, DONE DEAL!! Im still trying to figure out a safe way to "clamp" paper on your 8.5X11 trap. Any Ideas?? Now Ive seen them before,, dont EVER want to see one again,, seems those X-Ray viewers you can just slap up a "Pic",, what holds them up?? Now why in the heck did I bring that up?? NO DAM DIRT BIKES JAY!! Airguns--Airguns--Airguns,, Im ok now!! Thanks Dr. Tom,, Will contact you tommorow to try & finalize travel/lodging arangements,, Tim.

Film holders (from those of us who still hang films - most are digital now) are pretty simple.  Viewed on end, the top edge of the viewbox is sheet metal bent downward and back (toward the lighted surface, to form a prism-shaped right triangle tube with a gap, perhaps 1/8th inch on the bottom edge.  In that tube or space, there are multiple metal rollers, maybe an inch or two long and 1/4 inch diameter that just ride free in the tube.   When the film is pushed up, under the open lip on the bottom of the triangular tube, it easily slides past the metal rollers, pushing them up and out of the way.  When the film is pulled downward, it tends to pull the rollers downward, rolling them a bit so that they tend to wedge into the V and pinch the film against the light box.  Pulling more firmly, the film slips out past the rollers.  The weight of the metal rollers is sufficient to hold the film in place unless it is pulled firmly.

My idea was to use a cheap pasteboard-type clip board and build the trap to fit a standard clipboard like you find at any office supply store.  Then, cut the center of the clipboard out, leaving a 1" to 1.5" open frame below the clip that would expose most of an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper.  Clip the target in backwards, relative to how you would normally clip paper in a clipboard, so that the target faces the opening of the frame.  Drop the clipboard frame in the slots with the metal clip facing backwards and the framed target towards the shooter. I do something similar with my trap, and just use a large paper clip to secure the bottom so it doesnt flap in the breeze.  With the clipboard, you could easily back the target with a piece of card stock or just print targets on card stock (like the Gamo targets).  You can get cardstock at any office supply store and most printers will adjust to print on the thicker paper. The only exposed metal will be 2 metal brads about a quarter inch in size that hold the metal clip on the board.

Seriously, I wonder what the most efficient design for a spring/piston and compression chamber is.  Clearly long, narrow diameter tubes develop more absolute pressure (psi) but larger diameters deliver more compressed air volume.  But I wonder if it is more the constraints of the size of a rifle barrel and stock than the most efficient design possible that dictates.
