First good post in a while.

Well we went & we saw and we kicked their buts in a way, when we started all was fine but 30 mins after we were on our way it started to rain and I sure as hell was not about to turn back it wasn't that heavy any way and we only got a little wet.
It was good to get out and I really needed to do some walking as I drank way to much booze on Sat night and got totally Drunk so all the walking was about to help.

It was a good night we only got 17 possums but on our travels we came across a new valley that we ain't seen before and we spotted many possum in there but due to the weather we decided to leave it till a finer night.
Spotted at least 100 deer through the valley at various distances from 20 meters out to 100 meters it was quite amazing to see them mass like that in large groups almost like they really knew something that we didn't.

The possum in the picture with the knife in it actually died like that, It was just one of the many extra tough possums, I chased it into the hollow of a dead tree and when I went to grab it to put my knife into it he ran down to the bottom where there was an opening we could see him sitting inside I went in with the knife but he went me so I got Andy to shoot it in the head as he was loaded and as the pellet found home in the brain the possum went ape and tried leaping out at us it was just reaction to slam the knife down and hey presto I pulled it out and stuck it to the tree untill it stopped doing the dance of death cause they will still grab you while they are doing this and that hurts like hell especially it they don't let go.

On our way out we spotted a hand full of turkey sitting on a fence but we didn't need any so I just walked up to them slowly and started patting them just cause I knew I could they are so docile at night although they new I was there they were not to startled.

We are so poor in hunting areas now in Orange County California that they have ranches where they raise (or buy) pheasants. They take them out in the morning and "plant" them in the brush. You come along and pay some outrageous amount of cash and get an area to hunt in exchange. If you don't have a dog, the pen raised birds have to be kicked up to get them to fly. A friend went out to shoot one of these places and his dog flushed the first bird and then jumped up in the air and caught the bird in his mouth. After the retrieve, my friend put his gun away and let the dog get all the birds they had paid for that day. Looks like you have us one better, you can just walk up and put a collar and lead on turkeys and take them home on their own feet!! Great pictures - hope to shoot with you some day.

Some Nice shooting there Damage. As PBJ said, wish i had huntingrounds like your's near where i live. Wish i had the bucks for Airfare, would like to join you guys on a shoot down there in NZ . Did Andre(JAVZ) accompany you on the hunt?

Nope no Andre he lives about 6 or 7 hours drive from me so he only comes shooting when theres a shooting comp going on in my little town.
As for the turkey I had thought of putting a thick sock over their heads and taking them home clip their wings and feed them up on the good stuff I might just try that sometime.

Just arrived back from another great night shoot with Sean (Damage).

It was a really clear night, moon, stars, a little steam off the breath.....just a little moisture in the soil but not muddy really.

Went to one of Sean's farm shoots where he helps keep Possum numbers under control. Farmers here in NZ are required to help the local Govt with the cost of controlling possums if they are surveyed and found to be in higher numbers than desirable. Also with Bovine TB in the Possum poulation they are leagall required to instigate controls to keep it out of their herds.

This particular night was the first back at this farm in almost a year and a half for me, probably six months for Sean. What we found was a wholesale reinfestation. Every tree seemed to have little red eyes staring back. Now Sean's night vision is legendary and I cannot compete in the spotting as he can. It keeps me active and helps with fitness to go out with Sean, and I feel I am doing my bit for the local environment to help control Possums in surrounding farms.

That said, I had an awesome night, the best for a while. Total tonight was 26 Possums between us, and I got some field testing done on the Evanix for shot count, pellet types, and my mini CF bottle. A real surprise for me was the way the Predator pellets performed out of the Evanix at high power. Very good, despite their light weight, devastating on Possums......literally blowing chunks! Predator pellets do just as well out of a lower powered spring gun too.

So another night hunt with Damage goes down in memory, as a fun hunting night. It was a good haul considering the hunting pressure that has been applied to that farm over tha last couple of years.

So you really like those predator pellets? I've been thinking of picking some up (I have to mail order for those). The only .22 pellets available locally are the Crosman pointed 14.3 grain ones from a sporting goods store and the Daisy wadcutters from Wal-Mart. I don't like the pointed pellets because they tend to penetrate far too much, and the Daisy wadcutters are just...well...y'know.

Predator's are the go to pellet, many a harvest in my "ALBUM" have drooped to it's destruction. Ed

Same here, if I want them cheaper I can mail order them and incl postage it is cheaper than buying them at the local sports hunting store. BUT having said that I love them now and would happily pay the extra if I need them in a hurry.

Just as accurate as jsb pellets and similar POI, which means no need to re-zero.

I actually thought they would go loopy on me at the sort of velocities I was spitting them out at last night. They were dead on, and very reliable, so hunting confidence with these pellets is very high allowing you to take aim at shots you would normally not attempt.

Go get some and try for yourself.

I think because of its hollow centre, its stability is enhanced. If they made a round nosed version without a point, I think they would be a Target shooting phenomenon. extremely accurate......
