CFX shoots whee?

Not impressed with my CFX so far..One of Charlie's gold triggers made the trigger sweet.  When fired from a bench rest at 10 meters using the Gamo Scope I'm just not getting the consistency I expected.
Removed the scope and started with the iron sights.  with the windage centered and the elevation to the bottom pellets strike more than 6 inches low and 6 inches left.  by cranking the elevation past the last click and cranking the windage 3/4 of the way to the right I can bring the pellet strike close to the aiming point but very inconsistant.  
Ran a string of 10 through my Beta Chrony and was a little shocked.  Using Crosman Premier Super Match Competition grade my string was as follows:

Low 774.5, High 847.4, Average 808.7, Extreme Spread 72.88, Std Dev 21.21.  Shotswere 819.6, 847.4, 792.2, 823.0, 800.5, 815.1, 825.0, 792.4,744.5 and 797.7.

I'm new to spring guns but none of this seems right to me.  Wonder if some of you old timers might comment on my misery...

As an aside, myBaikal 46M pistols throws the same pellets at around 425 fps very consistently.

Looks to me like you may have a couple of problems. It looks like your piston seal is damaged letting lube past it and you just might have a rotary breech seal o-ring bad also. If the gun has been shot much in that condition, you can expect to see a pretty well canted spring with the severe cant at the bottom  as well as possibly quite fatigued.

That will not explain the sighting in issue though but may very well contribute to not being able to group them up. I would suggest trying a few other pellets also and suggest using a dome type pellet. Also, usually bench resting is not a good way to sight in a springer although some that know their gun well can be pretty proficient at it.

Also, check the front sight to be sure that it is seated properly and that the rear sight lock down screw is centered and tight.

Carl, 2 things. Dump the Gamo scope and get something decent on the gun, world of difference!! Secondly, get in touch with CDT and tune the thing. I had a Whisper and went through the same sh*t. My numbers were probably worse than yours. The Tuna took a toy and made a weapon. Now 950 - 960 fps consistently, hardly any kick, no twang. Get in touch with him. I only use scopes, can't help you with the sights. But my son has a CFX with a decent Center Point scope on it and it is a tack driver!!! Hope this helps bro, and good luck!!

Yes, but you need to remember that the CFX is a totally different animal and very few if any get that kind of velocity unless they have a problem. They usually wind up between 850-900 through the traps plus or minus a little. The velocities in the CFX can sometimes be a little erratic.

Tuna, I agree 100% on the velocity, but we never had an accuracy problem!! You need to open that thing up and let us know what's up!!

Stargazer, if your cfx came with the same scope my bigcat did, it's best to put in use it on something else, and purchase a better scope. I wasn't really impressed with the performance of mine. For the time being, re-zero your scopes reticles and try shimming the tube with 35 mm camera negative film. This may help you zero in without exhausting the windage/elevation turrets. As for the velocity, keep shooting it and give it plenty of time to break the gun in. Later if you're still not happy with the performance, a CDT tune might be in order. Bob does great work and you'll be much happier with your rifle. Just my thoughts. Good Luck, tjk
