Big Pellet Review...
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:32:52 PM »
I've been meaning to test out these pellets I bought off of pyramidair in my Crossman G1 Extreme.  So I set up a piece of plywood at the end of my yard against the tall grass and I used the targets that came with the gun.  I was kneeling with two rests one for the front arm and one for the rear.  I was shooting at 40 yards.  I used 5 different types of pellets and I'll review them in order of worst to best okay so the worst.. you ready yea I am...

5. CROSSMAN PREMIER SUPERPOINTS

cal .177  weight 7.9 gr.
I bought these thinking they would be a good pellet and as far as accuracy goes I was wrong!
PROS -
These pellets had good velocity
Sharp looking pellet
CONS
These pellets fit very tight in the barrel
Alot of lead shavings

4. GAMO RAPTOR
cal .177  weight 5 gr.
I bought these thinking that the light weight would be cool to hear the pellets crack etc etc!
PROS -
They shoot fast
They are gold
They didn't have horrible grouping but it was higher than other pellets due to less weight and increased velocity
CONS -
Very Expensive
loose fit in barrel
These pellets got stuck in the plywood due to lack of "balls" lol
too much bling

3. CROSSMAN FIELD HUNTING
cal .177  weight 7.9 gr.
I bought these at walmart a good overall pellet
PROS -
fits perfect in the barrel
good groups
inexpensive
CONS -
Could be more accurate
very leady

2. CROSSMAN DEYSTROYER
cal .177 weight 7.9 gr.
I bought these offline at pyramidair I was looking for a good hunting pellet
PROS -
very accurate
spreads open when it hits target
CONS -
low velocity
doesn't shoot well at long range
fits loose in the barrel

1. GAMO HUNTERS
cal .177  weight 8.3 gr.
I bought these offline at pyramidair and I like these pellets the most
PROS -
Shoots accurate
Shots well at farther distance
Good knockdown power
good velocity
CONS -
Fits a little tight in the barrel
Little more expensive pellet
Doesn't come in 500 ct tins
*** I took out a bird today at about 100 yds with these!! still don't know how I hit it?

PICTURES are in order 5-1 like above.

Crossman G1 Extreme
Crossman Powermaster model 66
Crossman 1377C-R
Ruger AirHawk

Of all the pellets you tried out, I prefer the destroyers the best although the gamo hunters have a good "wallup" to them. I wish they Destroyers came in a bigger tin. As for the 100 yard bird,...sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I'm just happy that you got him,..I didn't see a pix of the bird, but I hope it was a starling or a grackle!  From the pix, I think your best grouping was from the Destroyers?!?!? I've taken squirrel from 25+ yards with them. They'll get the job done. tjk

I agree with tkj as far as the best accuracy being the destroyers.

I have yet to recieve the destroyers I ordered,   I have however used the Gamo hunters.   Very good pellet!

Hey Josh, before you come to any firm conclusions about accuracy of any of these pellets you might want to try to eliminate as much of the human/shooter factor as possible by trying a different rest set up. Try shooting from a bench rest with a single bag positioned very close to the trigger guard and your off hand barely supporting the forearm.Don't fire until you are rock steady.40 yds is a pretty long shot with springers but many guns are quite capable  of 1" or better groups at this distance. Also you didn't mention whether you were shooting with open sights or a scope. Most opens are pretty coarse at 40 yds, heck, even @10 yds.Keep shooting friend..

I agree about Gamo Hunters being a great pellet. Ive only shot Gamo and Crosman pellets so far, but i can shoot 3/4" group @ 40yds with the Hunters and no other mid-8gr pellet does that for me. And this was before the GRT trigger, cant wait to shoot some groups with the Detroyers and my new trigger!!
