do I need AO
« on: August 21, 2008, 04:53:14 AM »
Hi,
this is my first post . I just got a b26 and purchased a hawke 3-9x40 hawke airmax scope. I was cheap and bought the one without adjustable objective. It is set focus free at 50 yards. I will be hunting and plinking. Should I send it back and get AO or will I be fine. thanks

Hello jasperjet and a big Howdy Doo and Welcome to the forum. You should be fine with your non AO scope as long as you can focus and see the target clearly. At close range keep the magnification on lower power for the clearest view.

Welcome to the GTA Forums Belton,

You have foundTHE GREATEST PLACE TO BE !

As for your scope, You should return the scope, for an A.O. scope, an A.O. scope will focus down to 10 yards, to infinity. The Non A.O. scope will focus at 50 yards too infinity, so it will be blurry when you try to shoot closer than 50 yards. So unless you intend on shooting at 50 yards and greater, the A.O. scope, is the one for you.

So now that you are a member of the GTA Family, I hope to see you here often ! And if you are into pest control or hunting, we have a GREAT Hunting Gate, that would love to your accounts, and photos !

I thought that an AO...

...had less to do with focusing and more do to with parallax correction. I can adjust the eyepiece on my cheap Daisy Powerline scope to focus down to 10 yards easily enough, even though it doesn't have an AO.

If it IS a matter of parallax, what sort of error might be induced by using a non-AO scope?

Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your new B-26 I really enjoy mine. For my two cent worth on the scope, I agree with Big Bill. Get your self a A. O. scope. I know a very large portion of the shooting I do is at ranges a lot less than 50 yards I find the versatility and clarity available at any range with A. O. scopes a real plus.

If you have 3-9x40 scope, objective must be adjustable. Anyway, I don’t think that you’ll use B26 as a long range hunting gun, so even 4x32mm scope at 20~30 yards should be fine. And its parallax-free starts from 7 yards to 50 yards.
