That's hilarious Paul! Mine hasn't ever let go and it's like many of my rifles; only as accurate as I am. I just picked up a 5c spin index with collets from 1/8 to 1 inch yesterday. Now I can put my rotary table away and do the smaller work without all the setup time. BTW, I checked out Grizzly's professional 6 inch vise yesterday when I was there and it is a very well made vise if you're ever looking for a nice 6 incher. It'll set you back around $350 which is still less than half of a Kurt. You could probably find a used Kurt for around that and you'd still have to probably buy a set of new jaws.

Heck, I just re read your post. $100 for a 6 inch vise. WOW, that's a great deal!

Got one just like it. The grad dial has slop in it, but if you want to tear it apart, you can bush it for zero runout. Mine still works great once I get it dialed in and is pretty rigid too. Check out http://www.wttools.com and have them send you a catalog and there's a place up around Cleveland, OH that sells bargain tooling too. I think it's called JTS machinery. I picked up a D1-4 camlock 10" chuck off of them for a pretty reasonable price.

Can't part with it now. It still gets used for bolt circles and radial stuff.  I did just finish using the spin indexer for a shroud/brake and man it sure is a pleasure to use. Just throw in an appropriate collet tighten it down and spin it to whatever hard degree you want and mill away. It's got enough rigidity for short stock and I figure I will be building a tailstock for it soon for long fluting jobs or whatever. As long as it is 1 inch dia or less, it will accommodate it all the way through it's body. My rotary table is only a 6 incher anyway. If I were going to do it again, I would go with an eight.
