Gamo thrust washers???
« on: November 28, 2008, 02:19:16 AM »
My eldest Gamo (a high-mileage Shadow about 5 years old) did poorly when I recently tried some long-range groups. Turns out the pivot seemed to be loose, and I was able to tighten the pivot bolt so much (I think about 3/32") that the threaded portion stuck so far out the other side that it visibly bowed the front/right portion of the stock.

I pulled the pivot apart and found that although the washers still made the breech fit tightly in the fork, area right around the hole in the left-hand washer was worn quite a bit. This is the part that the pivot bolt bears against.

I got around that for now by swapping washers side-to-side, since the right-hand washer had no such wear for obvious reasons. But this is obviously only a temporary measure.

So I gots a couple of questions:

1) Have others noted this? I've heard a lot about Quest variants and their pivots, but I don't remember hearing of similar issues with the Gamo's.

2) I assume that Quest washers will work as a replacement, although I haven't measured them yet. Does anyone know if they work properly here?

3) What other solutions are there?

Vince, I'm 99% positive that I've seen pics of some brass shoulder washers that Fix made up. You might ask him about that...was a while ago.
