CONDOR WITH TALON TANK 700 PSI FILL
« on: December 21, 2008, 05:15:57 AM »
Beeman .177 , 8 grain silver sting pellets , P.W. on low , two twenty shot strings one fill , end psi 600 , 16 yard target .
String 1 - 717 , 713 , 713 , 711 , 708 , 708 , 703 , 703 , 702 , 699 , 690 , 693 , 688 , 687 , 686 , 682 , 683 , 679 , 678 , 676 , average 696 fps
String 2 - 673 , 672 , 667 , 666 , 664 , 661 , 657 , 653 , 655 , 654 , 646 , 645 , 643 , 641 , 639 , 638 , 635 , 630 , 628 , 628 , average 650 fps
Average of 40 shot total 673 fps . Fills on a 80 c.f . tank up to 531. Average deviation for 40 shots very close to 10 percent .
If you look at this you will see that the math is pretty basic . On all the fill rates the drop was about the same and the air usage about the same per shot as well . I was surprised by all this and by the E- mails I have received I know I am not the only one . I have listed all this so those that are buying and selling A. F. rifles will have this information as well . I bought this rifle primarily as a long distance shooter and all this is a big bonus for me . I wanted two tanks and from what I have seen my poi is on at 16 yards with the talon tank and 16 yards . When I switch the tank back to the Condor tank and shoot 50 yards it is zeroed in as well which makes this a good combo for my application right now . If you want to cut the cost down I know you can order a Condor with a Talon tank and go from there as well . That is what Mac 1 does before he does his tunes . I was asked if the Condor tank with the striker bushing removed would work and I said I did not think so . I based that on what I read at P.A. I believe . It was stated that a Talon with a Condor tank would only do 600 fps . After thinking about it I guess it might work . If any one has tried please speak up . Right now I am thinking I might leave well enough alone . Then again I might want to play again time will tell . Thank you for the e - mails as well .Marvin

Hey, Marvin, this is some nice work you've done here.  You're not planning on going any lower, are you?  Reason I ask is, I think your pressure is getting low enough that you could end up with a tank dump.  No harm, but disconcerting if you've never had it happen :-).

BTW, a Talon will work with a Condor tank, but you need to increase the hammer weight, either by adding the extra Condor striker weight, or by replacing the stock hammer with a heavier one.  In other words, by turning your Talon into a Condor :-).  Which brings up another question that may have been answered in an earlier post.  Did you remove the extra striker weight for this series of tests?  And did you make any changes in top hat setting?

Personally, I think the best setup with the Air Force guns is a Talon SS with an 18" barrel and a well adjusted Talon tank, in whatever caliber you prefer.  Good shot count, excellent balance and weight, and nice and compact for packing around in your car/truck.  Plus it looks cool, I like the longer frame on the TSS, but never felt I shot it as well with the 12" barrels.  Later.

Dave

Dave that is the end of that testing . It falls way off after the 600 psi were I have been stopping at . Yes I know the filling of a dump . It happened with the micro - tank I had . The valve was a little sticky at first and it did me in . The rifle is stock and the top hat is set as low as this one will go at .105 . But there is no play to speak of between the striker and the valve . The question I was asked was removing the striker weight and using the Condor tank which I don't know . If there would be enough force to open the  valve enough . I know I read it either at P.A. or A.F. and they said it would only do about 600 fps so not to do it . But I thought that if you got a constant 600 fps it might be good for close target work with a high shot count . But like I said this really is going to be my long distance shooter so I don't know if I am going to play any more or not . I would think what I have mentioned would have been tried  before and listed but I have not seen it  . Marvin
