Between stock and action

I was thinking about an application of RTV silicone or something similar between the stock and action.  I think it could serve to deaden vibration, but also marry the two as one better than 3 screws for accuracy.  

I'm thinking a couple of button sized dollops in front and one in the rear, so that it could be seperated if necessary.

What do you think?

I too have thought about that Mike, have not tried it yet though. Shure seems like a good idea. I feel however there must be some reason it has not been recomended by the true experts?  (It would certainly change the harmonics greatly)?? :o  Maybe CDT, (Mr Bob) has some input? Just occured to me: The recoil would most probly destroy the integrity of the small surface area of contact in very short order. :0  Its time for me to go to bed:! :p  Geeze,, Tim.

Tim, I don't think that would happen.  The kind of RTV I am thinking of is the type that International uses to seal an oil pan.  It is impervious to most any chemical, very thick, very adhesive and tough as nails.  I agree, the typical thinner vinigar smelling RTV's are not durable.  Just a thought.

I can't see it damaging the gun in any way, as here in the UK where we are getting guns with anti tamper installed, they are using silicone to stick the action into the stock on certain springers. This is to stop us working on our own guns. (sucks) PCP's have special screws that cannot be removed.

I plan to glass my Big Cat as soon as the weather warms.A generous area around the 2 front screws and the area around the tang screw.Brownells is the best.You can even dye it black to match the synthetic stock.I'm hoping that by bonding the action to the stock more tightly it will be more consistant,have less 'twang' and be a little less hold sensitive.Synthetic stocks as used in air rifles have a lot more flexability than wood or center fire synthetic.There's nothing to lose by bedding the action this way unless of course you forget to put a liberal coat of petroleum jelly on the parts you don't want bonded together!

I also have thought about this and have tried a  pads of neoprene under the inside of the compression tube on the springer guns. It helped some in guns with sloppy inleting. This was done mostly in my B-20. The stock was very poorly inleted in that one. Also I made screw cups for the front screws, and played around with the torque applied to the action screws. I think sometimes we tighten them down to hard and crush the wood.

i will let you guys know how it works out , i am bedding the action on my ruger air hawk right now with some jb weld .it has poor inleting , the factory has a plastic shim in there and it has to go because it keeps shifting .

i got my ruger done , fits much better now  and there is no slop . i used some grease to keep to jbweld form bonding the action to the stock at it work great . i will post some pics later . i have not shot it yet but will report back when it do .

stock is not quite done yet , today i plan to clear it i will get some pics before paint of the bedding .
