Found another $74 S1K
« on: December 29, 2006, 12:16:08 PM »
I was out for a couple of hours today checking the local Sports Authority and Walmart stores looking for another metal gun safe.  Wasn't having any luck, every single store was out of stock.  On the way home decided to stop in at the last Walmart between me and home.  Walked into the sporting goods section and right away saw a gun safe like the one I wanted that was on sale.  I had just finished putting the large box on top of the shopping cart for the trip to the register when all of a sudden something familiar caught my eye.  There on the shelf, laying next to all the Crosman phantom air rifle boxes was a pristine Shadow 1000 box.  It was the only one on the shelf.  I picked it up and saw the price tag said $124.99,,,,  oh well, no clearance price :(

As I went to place the box back on the shelf I noticed a little red sticky label on the end of the box.  I looked and saw those wonderful words and numbers........ "Clearance   $74.00"

Now I really don't need the rifle, and I knew I really shouldn't buy it, but before I knew it the girl at the register was scanning my new gun safe and my new clearance Shadow.  All the way home I kept telling myself I shouldn't have bought it but I just couldn't pass it up, I just couldn't.   I"ve got this air gun sickness BAD and I just can't shake it.  Thank God I just got a meals/mileage reimbursement check from work that will cover the cost of the Shadow cause  otherwise the Mrs. would be going on the war path.  :)  I'm thinking of perhaps contacting Rich (when I save up the money) and seeing about having him install one of those .20 cal Walther barrels.

But what you get a super accurate rifle that shoots flat and has more power than most .22 spring powered rifles.

I went and shot my $74 wonder today myself for a little while.  I was at a friends place and had quite a bit of open range to mess around in.  No real good targets, and not alot of time, I just sighted in on this tree limb which we guessed to be at about 70 yards.  I know it's not a real suitable target to do any real shooting, but it was there and so was I with little time to muck around.  I sighted in my Tasco, pulled the trigger, thunk....plunk!  I shot it about a dozen times at that range, and what immediately got to me was how quick the two sounds were together.  I mean, 70 yards isn't a 1000 yard shot, but the snap of the rifle, and then the sound of the pellet hitting the branch was quick!  I have a dozen, give or take, air rifles, mostly .22 CO2 guns, and I know they don't shoot as fast as this thing....but man it was quick...and obviously somewhat accurate...I'm not that great of a shot, and I've only just recently sighted this gun in at a whole 13yards rested....but around 70 yards, offhand, with a springer when I usually shoot gas, without even really trying I was hitting a maybe 6" round limb everytime.  I'm pretty happy to say the least, now all I need is a stock for it.  Hate plastic stocks:)

Have fun,

Dan

At this price, it would be worth putting extra $$ into it

You have a gun that's worth well more than the $74.00 price tag.  With the extra $75 for the WL barrel you'd have spent the same money that I spent on my box stock S1k almost 3 years ago.  So now you would have a gun that  is more accurate and more powerful than mine for the same money!  I would upgrade it in a heartbeat if I could get my hands on one of those clearance guns!
