TF89 open sights
« on: June 30, 2009, 11:54:45 AM »
question on behalf of a newfound airgunner friend who didn't feel like registering for GTA:

Has anyone used the TF89's open sights? Especially since the rifle started showing up with the fiber optics. I've read somewhere on GTA (might have been one of Gene's posts, but I'm not sure) that someone ran out of vertical adjustment on them. And how fragile is that unprotected front sight? The vertical adjustment thing may be a moot point;if he gets one he'll probably put a peep on it. But if that front one's liable to break or fall apart..

Thanks in advance for chiming in :)

(and I'll work on convincing him to sign up and become a GTA family member  8)  )
Yea, though I walk through the garden in the shadows of pests,
I will fear no squirrel: For thou art with me;
thy scope and thy trigger, they comfort me.

The fiber optics LOOKED nice, and I was tempted to use them but never did. I had a Leaper 4-16x50 scope just waiting for it to arrive, so the temptation was overcame. When I had Gene tune mine, I also had him install a muzzlebrake, 'cause the front sight kinda dug into my palm when cocked....so it had to go.

Oh, and if your friend's TF-89 is .177, tell him to consider Beeman Silver Arrow pellets. They're pricey, but I get the best groups with them out of this rifle.  I couldn't get mine to group  Crosman Premier Heavies to save my life.  His results may/will vary.
