Ruger Air Hawk = RWS 34 ?
« on: June 28, 2009, 04:47:03 PM »

Hi all, I've read that the Ruger Air Hawk is a Chinese clone of the RWS 34 (From one of Gene's posts).....is that correct?

I've used a spring compressor on Gamo and Crosman air rifles....easy.....because the trigger safely is part of the trigger assembly. But with the Air Hawk and 34's....the safety is at the rear of the receiver, is there any special procedure I need to do to remove that safety before tapping out the pin and taking out the spring?

Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

It is a copy of the 34 with articulated cocking linkage like the 350. You can remove the plastic end cap and pull the safety out or use a small block of wood placed below the safety that protrudes past the end. Once you remove the pins it all comes out as one assembly. Here is a link with a picture.

As you can see it is a VERY easy gun to work on.

Thanks very very much Jim.  That pictorial guide is very instructional.....very similar procedure as Gamo and Crosmans.  I just didn't know about their trigger safeties....I thought everything would come out in pieces....and then I would be in trouble.

Thanks Gene, yes I do have a home-made spring compressor.....only I used slightly rotten wood....and after using it a few times the strain from the springs have started to deform the holes (Made them larger and not aligned) where the bolts hold the C clamp and the wood block (For the muzzle).  When I use the compressor....those end parts start to spread out like a V.  Have to build a better one with new dry wood....
