I need some advice on a pistol for my 7 year old daughter.
« on: June 29, 2009, 04:44:18 PM »
She can really shoot my 747 match pistol, if it is on a rest, but is way too heavy for her little hands. (She can still fit in size 2T cloths, LOL.)

She saw the Walther PPK in Pink and has decided that Daddy is getting her one.

After reading up on it and other BB Pistols I have narrowed it down, I think.

No particular order:

A) Walther PPK Pink: 295f/s; BB only; $66  (Yes it's pink, but I can paint any grips, LOL)

B) Walther CP99 Compact: 345f/s; BB only; $76  (The video on this one makes me want to get it for myself, LOL)

C) Beeman 2008: 400f/s; Pellets only; $80  (Pellets are better than BBs, but is this too big, and heavy?)

D) Daisy Powerline 008: 480f/s; Pellets or BBs; $56  (This has some great reviews at Pyramid, and it shoots pellets) (Oh and the price is more along the lines I was thinking for a 7 year old)

Cheers, David.

You should really consider one of the Crossman CO2 pistols, such as a 2300. Much better accuracy, reasonable cost and easy to shoot.
The current stable, (arsenal, quiver?): BSA Lightning XL .177, BSA Sportsman HV .22, BSA Ultra .177, CZ634 .177, Daystate Harrier X .177, TAU 200 Senior .177, HW 97 .177, HW 50s .177, HW 30 .177, RWS 92 .177, Gamo 126 MC Super, Gamo Big Cat .177, AR2078A, QB78 .177, Quest 1000 .177, Beeman SS650 .177., Beeman P17 .177.

I would concider the Crosman Co2 as best chioce.. standard one at pyramid is about $60 or  go for the 2300 series :) you can also try the crosman custom shop and order one as you like with nice wood grips etc..  http://www.crosman.com/custom_store/  .  Tony

My Daughter only weighs 42 pounds, she is a little petit 7 year old.
She can shoot my 10M Match pistol, but only with a rest.

I am very fermilliar with the 2240 and 2300. I have been modding them for several years.
I was looking into getting something lighter, and shorter.

I am guessing that no one has anything good to say about any of the pistols I mentioned.

I will rethink the 2240 and cut the grip frame down. shorten the barrel, reduce the hammer size.

I already have most of the parts to do that.

Cheers, David.

I have a nice Daisy 717 single pump air pistol. I decided I wanted to try a CO2 pistol or two (repeater).I ordered a few.I also bought one at Big 5.That one is a Walther CP99 Compact Recon. You can read some reviews (including mine) at http://www.pyramidair.com (mine is the newest review). One of the reviews refers you to a youtube video. That is worth watching. The Compact Recon comes with a rail mounted to the gun, and a green dot electric dot scope. The open sights are fully useable with the scope mounted-unlike some other guns of this type. It is a bb gun with an unrifled barrel, so can't shoot pellets. This gun has true blowback action, and the slide is held open after the magazine is empty. The gun is quite fun to shoot, and at closer ranges is pretty accurate.I was amazed tonight after work that I fired off a three shot group from a small rest of 3/8" using the green dot sight at about 18 feet. That is slow fire. That's better than most of the groups, but the gun has enough accuracy to be a fun shooter. The open sights are quite good, but are not adjustable, and mine shoots about four inches high and two inches left of point of aim. The green dot sight works well and is easy to adjust windage and elevation. I got this gun on sale at Big 5 for $89.95. It is not real powerful, but it is very quiet, which makes it a good choice for back yard shooting.I find the CO2 cartridges a bit tricky to install and get punctured.pyramidair.com is selling these Recon models new for $69,95 minus the green dot sight. They are new but reboxed for that price. I also ordered a Crosman C11 bb repeater and a Crosman 357W, which is a lead pellet shooter. I'm 55 years old and used to do a lot of powder handgun shooting, reloading, and competition, but find it to much of a hassle to get to the range these days. Now I can shoot in my back yard.Anyway, I find my CP99 Compact to be more accurate than most owners have said them to be.Also the trigger, while it has a long pull, also has a pretty light pull, which adds to the accuracy. I also thought, with a lot of talk about banning lead, maybe I should try out a BB gun or two.I'm also interested in the Daisy model 499 rifle, which is said to easily be the most accurate BB rifle available.
    Good luck in your choice.

I recently purchased a Walther ppk/s CO2. It would come MUCH closer to fitting her hands than a Crosman 22xx series or the like.  It's easy on the budget, slow fps, but fun. It has a quality feel to it as well. Made of metal, a real good buy, and a good starting point for a 7 year old. The only drawback I can see is the accuracy is lacking a bit, but it is just a bb gun. I think your choices depend on what you want out of the gun. If you want her just to have fun plinking around, this is one to consider.

just my 2 cents

Mike

Thanks for the help, I am not decided, but the input is certainly swaying me towards getting a bb pistol and a 2240.
I will put a .177 barrel on it for target.

Cheers, David.
