FS - Crosman 1760SE - $150 Shipped - SPF
« on: August 04, 2009, 12:03:28 PM »

Well, it is a somewhat sad day for me because I'm selling the first high quality airgun that I ever purchased, a Crosman 1760SE.   Don't feel too sorry though because the reason I can part with this little gem is that I picked up an R7 at an estate sale over the winter that now serves as my mid-powered go-to gun.    So, it's time to fill a hole in my collection with a more powerful springer.

My little 1760SE is not quite two years old with about 300 or 400 pellets through it.   I applied Diamus' 2 screw trigger modification to it, and it went from an okay trigger to a very, very nice trigger (though obviously not a Rekord).   It has no dings, scratches, or rust on the wood or metal at all as I always wiped it down with a silicone rag after each session.   The rear sight was bent during initial shipping, but Crosman sent a replacement as soon as I told them about it.  Oddly enough, I never installed it once I got the scope mounted becuase it balances well enough with the CenterPoint 6x32 that it didn't seem to be worth the effort.  I'll include the extra rear sight with the gun.

Click the pictures to enlarge them.

The 1760SE differs from the 1760 in that it has a steel breech with regular dovetails, so mounting optics is a breeze.

The scope has an illuminated reticle and adjusts from 3 yards to infinity

Here's what it is capable of at 17 yards with 4 different pellets for 10 shots each.  I didn't get to shoot the RWS Hobbys because my 5 year old woke up from her nap early and wanted to play with Daddy ... cse la vie.  The black part of the bulls are 1 inch across for reference, and I put an orange sheet of paper behind the target for the picture.  Starting from the top and moving clockwise.  I've added the Chrony numbers in a reply below this post.

    • The Crosman Destroyers had one flyer (called) with 2 pellets that hit low when I miscountd the shots remaining in my CO2 cartridge.  With those two in there the CTC was .634 inches, discounting them give a CTC of .318 inches
    • RWS Superdomes had a .661 CTC
    • JSB Exacts gave .376 CTC
    • Beeman Crow Magnum had one flyer (called) with .715 CTC
These numbers are pretty close to what Rick Eutsler got when he reviewed this little rifle last year.

It's a great plinker, is good for small birds such as House Sparrows, and is just the right size for a small framed adult or teenager wanting to shoot a "real pellet gun".  I'm asking $150 shipped to your door, and that includes the gun, scope, and mounts.  I'll take PayPal, money order, or personal check

I still have the rifle.  I will go home at lunch and update this post with the Chrony data.  I apologize, it just slipped my mind last night.

I would consider a trade.  I'm looking for a springer that will do around 12 FPE or greater, and I'm not too fussy about the caliber.  What Webley do you have in mind?

i usually sell webley singrays for $200 and webley longbows for $215.  they're brand new airguns.   they both shoot around 800 fps (around 12 ftlbs - the brittish thing).   i am intrested in your crosman - please let me know the chonograph data (those things are factory rated @ 700 fps).   i'm curious to know if you've ever heard of any after-market tune (or after-market valves) that will boost the velocity .     - paul.

Here are chronograph readings for the 4 pellets that I have on hand.  They are the average of ten shot strings taken at approximately 80 degrees.

    • 7.9g Crosman Destroyers - 697 fps (8.5 fpe)
    • 8.4g JSB Exact - 670 fps (8.4 fpe)
    • 8.3g RWS SuperDomes - 673 fps (8.4 fpe)
    • 7.56g Gamo Hunters - 677 fps (7.7 fpe)

Paul,

As I understand it, there are many, many resources for someone wanting to tinker with the 1760 in any way.  The basic package has been around for quite some time.  The Crosman gate probably has examples for most anything you desired to do to it.

Cheers,

Bobby

thats a regular chrony figure for co2 with out a tune ,with a tune it will add a little like up to 740 perhaps and thats a .22 version of the qb78 which does come close but for a .177 it will give u high 700,s low 800,s either way u put it they r great accurate shooters and for the price its excellent crossman does make them good and fun to shoot .great price for a great shooter ...

they are assembled by webley in turkey, i believe at the hatsan arms plant.   the quality control must be different, or they have inspectors from brittian there, because they are much better quality than my walther talon magnum (hatsan 125 torpedo), or my daisy powerline 1000.    there is no plastic in these airguns.    i could trade a stingray II for one if you could throw in some pellets or something else.   let's talk.   we could manage a longbow or tomahawk, perhaps, also.    - paul.    just email me directly - ranedouglas@yahoo.com

Paul,

Yes, I received the funds and am shipping it out tomorrow.  Best of luck with your Webley rifles.   The Tomahawk did look interesting, so maybe next time.

Thanks,

Bobby

ok.   the tomahawk was the air rifle that started this whole webley venture.   i was so impressed w/ the deal i got for $220, that i arranged to sell them to the rest of the airgun community.    take care.   - paul.
