obamacare from the other side
« on: September 06, 2009, 07:32:18 AM »
lately i was browsing some "leftist" forums and had a chance to read the other side of the spectrum.

here are some points that i found interesting (they vary from broad range to more specific):

-alot seem to accuse the "right" of just complaining for the sake of complaining and not offering any alternatives

-the republicans were accused of starting the whole mess by giving care providers and pharmaceutical companies free reign

-one was a mention of how some people in Louisiana were treated by volunteers since they couldn't afford any care. despite this fact they were against obamacare, which is kind of ironic.

-some argue that the republicans in the end would want a one party system, which would lead to authoritarianism he argues

-one even criticizes the (Christian) right as being hypocrites, because even the bible has socialistic ideas. here's a quote:

Quote
Matthew 5:42 “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”

Luke 3:11 “John answered, ‘the man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.’"

Luke 12:33 "Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys."

Matthew 25:35-40 (New International Version)
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

if i were president and i had to make a quick decision i'd probably do something like this:

-i'd make a law that would prohibit unfair practices such as denying insurance to preexisting condition patients
-obligate every insurance company to offer an insurance package that would offer the bare minimum of healthcare, affordable to people on minimum wage

not much of a detailed plan...but to me it would seem to work. at least point one would solve alot.
i haven't seen anything alike proposed till now so i claim the rights to "originality of idea" hehe :P
