Fair price for Beeman R1?
« on: September 25, 2009, 11:36:00 PM »
Hi guys, help me out.

I introduced a coworker to the sport, and now he's a rabid fan.  He's been putting steadily increasing pressure on me to sell him my Beeman R1 (Santa Rosa, .177).

My gun is literally "perfect", and I love it, but my small backyard means I don't shoot it that much, and I'm considering the sale...

Seeing that a "new" one is roughly $700, I was thinking of asking him for $500.  Am I cheating him or cheating myself?

What's your take?

500-600 is a fair price for the both of you but, the is going to cost you to reaquire that gun if you do sell it. See if you can talk him into an R-9 used. You can get an R-9 for about 350-400. The R-9 will be a easier gun to tote around and lighter in weight. Good luck.

It is a nice gun but, its .177 cal. it would bring more in a .20 or .22 cal. I think your high in your pricing. Run a search in the yellow classifieds to see what the last few R1's sold at.

I saw one just recently for sale priced at $300....same cal and same address.

Good Luck

I'll bet it had some wear and tear.  There's one posted NIB on the Yellow for $500.  Check out the newly imported prices.  At 80%, $500 becomes $400.  And some guys pay a premium for the older guns, too.

That's a tough one.  I agree 500 to 600 is probably a fair price for a mint Santa Rosa gun.  But .177 might be harder to move, and in any caliber it'll be looking for a collector.  Also your co-worker is needing more a shooter than a collector gun so I don't know if he'd want to pay collector price.

If he really wants your R1, rather than something lighter like a R9 (though your R1 will be better made than any stock R9), and you'd rather have the cash than a collectible, than $500 might be a good compromise price IMHO.

He offered me $600 cash last week, which I thought was a bit much.

Something to consider.   Sales to co-workers are almost like office romances.  If you sell him the gun and he then  looks around on the net and feels he may have paid too much, you're stuck working with him. So, while the $500 sounds super, if you are not sure that's a really fair price, you might want to beg off.  Got to maintain peace in the old valley.
