The squirrel invasion of my yard continues. This is really baffling me, I just don't know where they're all coming from. I looked out the sliding glass doors into the back yard and there were 6 squirrels hanging all over the bird feeders, one of em chewing on one of the feeders trying to make the dispensing hole in the feeder even bigger.
I went into the basement, grabbed my .177 S1k with the Golden Antler scope and quietly made my way out of the basement into the backyard. As soon as I stepped out all the squirrels scattered. I kept my eye on one of the larger ones as he scurried way up to the top of one of the big trees in the yard. I lost sight of him as he neared the top, but I knew he was up there.
I must've slowly circled the tree a dozen times but I just could not spot him, so I tried a different tactic. I have some very thick, very tall pine trees bordering one side of my property, so I took refuge inside the thick branches of the trees and quietly waited as I scanned the tree tops. After about 10 minutes I suddenly saw something that just didn't look right,,,, it was dark and round and shiny. I put the scope up, dialed it to 9 power and took a look. Yup, there he was, glaring at me with his little beady eye. I still didn't have a shot, not enough of the head showing, so I just waited.
Sure enough, after 5 more minutes he moved just enough to give me the head shot I needed, distance was 20 yards. Put the crosshairs below his ear, squeezed,,,, heard the "THWACK", he hung there for a second, then let go and hit the ground. Game over.......
He's resting in the freezer with his buddies :)
