New Job
« on: October 25, 2009, 12:00:35 PM »

Guys, I am trying hard to change jobs. I have one lined up but just waiting on the go from them. If I get the green light tomorrow (Monday), my last day will be this Friday. A two weeks notice isnt going to help. We have been short handed and over worked for almost 2 years now. Two weeks is not going to be anymore extra time for them to find a replacement. They will do without and work the others to death. They really don't care about us, all promises and no action.

I received a .50 cost of living increase last Oct. I called my boss to say thanks. What a jerk. He told me he was against it as, "I don't feel we should reward people for just showing up to work". That never did set right with me. After about a month I finally went to my next boss up about it and he couldn't believe the guy said that. He felt like I was a great tech. Very few if any callbacks or complaints. I don't care how good you are or how hard you try, you will get call backs and complaints. That entire experience has been a stick in my crawl every since. I do not feel appreciated or respected. You never, ever get a complement or have some one stand behind you. I did once but that changed. (long story). Even if you were to walk on water, you could never live up to my bosses expectation or standards. We tell him he cant even meet his own standards. If you are a great tech, you might get a 3 out of 5 on your review. We asked him if anyone ever gets a 5 and he said he does, of course he does his own review. Like I said, If I were to walk on water, any praise? Nope, I would get a complaint that I might have made a little splash on one of my steps.

I am sorry for the rant here guys but $XX.00 an hour just aint worth this any more. I have gotten to the place that I hate where I am at now. I look forward to getting home on Friday and then as soon as I get home, I am dreading going back in Monday. I make very good money there but its just not worth the headache anymore. The job I am looking at is $2 less on the hour but is getting my foot in the door to start management and eventually get out of a service truck. I am now 41, soon to be 42 in a couple weeks. My way of thinking is this, If I don't get out of that service truck soon, I will be doing service the rest of my life. I think after 20 years of experience in service work, I need to start heading towards management. I have run my own small sales business (about 3 years) but thats it. Paid my bills though and didn't go broke. Its not like I can just go and try to hire on as a manager somewhere. I have run things before but never officially as a manager. Once I get in this open door, I can always say, Yes I have been in management. Its time to use my knowledge and not my back.

Ok, enough of my rant. If I have some praying friends here, please kindly remember me about this.
I just took a weeks vacation off and in less than 36 hours, I was back to feeling like this.

You can gauge a BOSS efficiency by the attitude projected by their subordinates and how they rate him/her as a leader. Life's too short to be bored by what you don't want to do..Relax and shoot/tinker with our toys (AG)

Paul,  you may be taking a cut in pay to move on , but you are doing the right thing.  You are unhappy with the situation at work.  If you stay you will only become more bitter towards your job and the people you work with.

Good Luck in your new job.

I am a 'BOSS" myself.  And the advice I give to you comes from many years of experience.  When you leave the old job put it behind you .  Start fresh again.

Paul... if you walk out the door every day and go to a job you like and enjoy, you will never be going to work. It's not work if you enjoy what you are doing and the people around you.

Gentelmen, thank you all for your imput.I have always taken pride in my work, even when unhappy about the job, I would always do the best job I could. However, I find myself in a place where the company I work for has me not carring anymore. Even our 20 year plus techs are ready to leave. I have debated on trying to talk with the bosses but I already know how that turns out. They don't really care. They will promise you they will do something but history here proves other wise. I still do my job but man is it hard to do my best fr someone who don't care for their employees.
