Harbor Freight
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:37:33 AM »
Hi:

Local Harbor Freight sent a flyer.  Benchtop Drill press $39.95.  I have one of these and it's great for small projects.  Mine came with a 1/2" chuck (a bit of overkill if you ask me) and it's dead on stable with no wobble and runs smooth as a clock.  It suits my small space and budget to a "T".  Also show their10" lathe for $399 - and yes there are better lathes out there but if you are on a budget and don't have a lot if space it might be worth a look. A lot of their Chinese tools wouldn't be a good bet for professional or commercial ventures but do just fine for limited use by home tinkerer and are often far better than doing without!

I have far too much time on my hands.

Cheers
Fatman

You are right about a part time tinkerer. If I was going to do a production I might not choose these tools. But as long as I am on an old man, do it when I feel like it, part time they will probably out last me. If they don't then I guess I win!!

I've been fighting the urge to purchase one of those mini-lathes. I'll probably wait 'til early next year.
Their are a bunch of helpful sites supporting these lathes.

I have that little benchtop drill press and it is absolutely great. I am not a factory, but for my little things it is a lot better than not having one.

Do you happen to have the item#? I check their web site and can't find the one you mention.
Thanks!

Hi ka3ypu:

It's on the back page Lot no.38119/44506 on Super Cupon.  May mean that you have to present the cupon at the store.

If you didn't get the flyer, it has the No. 4371-1 center top of the front pag, ask to see the manager and give him/her the Lot no and the flyer numberand ask for the discount - they are very easy going at the one I go to and seem to honor on line ads, flyer ads etc. with no problems.

They also show another bench top model #44505 which I believe is larger and features a 1/2" keyles chuck, also 5 speed and with a swivel lamp.  It's on sale for $69.99.  The picture shows a curved drive handle similar to their floor model (@289.99 16 Speed).

The little one I have is quite heavy and runs very smoothly.  The 1/2" chuck seems a little overkill on such a small drill press, but I've use 1/2" bits at slow speed on metal and it will get the job done but it's not a high production run press, more of a good hobbiest model.

Hope this helps.

I have far too much time on my hands.

Cheers,
Fatman

I can find this drill press in their sale flyer (online) for $59, not $39.  And I scanned their super coupons (online) and don't see it there either.  Their current super coupons (maybe a dozen of them?) all expire on 11/23.

When does this drill press super coupon expire?  Do you know where I can find this coupon?  I'd be very interested in this press for $39.

Thanks!

Hi haertig:

My flyer came in the mail.  They often have the flyers at the Store and you can pick one up there.  The offer is on the back page and it is good till December 14th.  It may only be good in the store as there is no mention of on line avaialbility.  They show the regular price as $79.99.

You can find store locations at http://www.HarborFreightusa.com.  If you need, I can send you the cupon as I won't be needing it.  Just let me know the address and it's yours.

You might also try Tools Now as they carry similar lines and often run specials.  There will probably be other offers from both companies before Chirstmas as most places are trying hard for your dollars.

Another place to try is Craigs List.  Google it and you can usually find a ton of stuff in your local area at really good prices.  Seems much better than ebay.  It's not a bid situation, its stuff thats priced to sell, often at give away prices.  Check it often and you may be surprised at what's available.  As it's a cash & carry proposition, you actually get to see the stuff, try it out and take it home with you - no shipping costs and no unpleasant surprises when it arrives from a distant online seller.

Hope this helps.

I have far too much time on my hands.

Cheers,
Fatman

Thanks.  I'll try to check the store for flyers tomorrow.  I have one about 10 minutes from my house.

Here's the online flyer, flip to the last page (page 24) and you can see this $79 drill press on sale for $59. But I don't see a super Coupon.  http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/tabviewer/startBrowseBook.do?bookid=261&preview=&type=RET&simple=

Here are the only super coupons I can find online: http://www.harborfreightusa.com/pages/usa_cpnsave.html , and they all expire 11/23.

I'll check the store for those super coupons tomorrow.  I've been thinking about an inexpensive drill press for occassional use, and for only $39 - this thing looks to fit the bill perfectly.  If I can't find the coupon tomorrow, I may take you up on your offer.  Unless it has to be the actual coupon on the original printer flyer, a scan+email or fax might be quicker if you have either of those at home.

Thanks again for pointing out this bargain!

Hi haertig:

Your flyer has a different no.  Mine is 4371-1, it looks like yours is 4372.  May be a regional thing.  The local stores here are in Laurel MD and Glen Burnie MD.  I can fax or mail the cupon, which ever works best for you.

I have far too much time on my hands.
