Any interest in a gun exchange program?
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:21:46 PM »
Tommy Couples aka Tcups mentioned the idea of a gun exchange in another post.  Although there's obviously a ton of details to be worked out, I was curious if there would be any interest in such a thing.  I know I've bought guns in the past that I sold almost as soon as I got them.  On the flip side, I've passed on guns that I eventually ended up with, and then wondered why the hell I waited so long :-).

Anyway, at this point I'm simply testing the waters, see if there's enough interest to make it worth trying to figure out a way to make it work.  Later.

Not here. On the one hand, it's like loaning out your lawnmower and waiting for it to come back when you need it. On the other, it won't stop guys like me from buying. In fact, it's worse if you loan something out and create a void crying out to be filled. Seriously, it might be fun be also has the potential to go awry if someone screws up a gun or it's lost or UPS breaks it.

All true, I suppose, but, I have accumulated more nice air rifles than I can regularly shoot and there are more than a few "brothers" on the GTA that I certainly trust and  know well enough to say something like "here, shoot this one for a as long as you want and send it back when you are done".  As a matter of fact, the big guy has one or two of my collection now, but that said, I probably owe him more than the value of the air rifles for all the help he has given me anyhow.  Gene has a very pleasant habit of sending them back better than when I loaned it.  I suspect there are others who have some talent along those lines.

Speaking of that, Dave, Timbo has my BSA Scorpion.  Something to do with his new wood duplicator and using his fast emerging talents to make a custom LH stock with an adjustable comb high enough for me to get a decent cheek weld on the carbine.  Can't loan you that one just yet.  And as for the vintage 10M rifle, my Walther LGR-U is strictly lefty.  I think you probably saw the Walther LGR I gifted brother Jerry in TX.  Might PM him and see if he's swap for a while.  Don't know how much he shoots his.  Me, I would be hard pressed to loan out the Walther LGR-U.  Like Gene says, it's one of the ones I sleep with.  LOL.

I suppose I would be most comfortable doing an exchange with someone I had met face to face or someone I had done business with in the past.  And there is a short list of folks I know well but have never met, for example Stephanie Peak Chick or Ed Shadow who would always be welcome.  It would have to be more of an individual, person to person deal than some open ended "lets swap guns for a while" thread on the forums, I think.  And to some extent, that is already going on.
