I want to put a front sight onto
« on: December 14, 2009, 03:34:57 PM »

a Timmy-chopped B28 who's business end is currently occupied by one of Gene's aluminum brakes. Any ideas? I'd rather not have to pay anyone to do anything to it, so simpler is better. And I'm not sure how the brake being aluminum would affect things.

Just fishing for ideas and advice. I though I could live without a front sight but I was wrong lol.

Also, in case the altered geometry of the barrel matters, the brake is 15/16" in diameter, and the barrel has been shortened to 15" from 19.5. And this is for use with a rear peep or micrometer on the scope rail, not the stock rear sight. For those of you who like visualizing things, here's the gun in question:

Yea, though I walk through the garden in the shadows of pests,
I will fear no squirrel: For thou art with me;
thy scope and thy trigger, they comfort me.

Make a pin sight.Drill and tap a hole in the brake for about a #4 or 5 screw,cut the head off and then file it down for the correct height for the rear sight  as you sight in.

Hey Eric,

You can just make a post sight from a very small screw, leave it round or square off the sides, or go to: Brownells. com and search rifle or shotgun front sights. They also carry some of the smallest taps and dies you;ll ever see !
