Crosman " Chopped".
« on: January 04, 2010, 01:10:11 AM »
Finally worked up the nerve to reduce the barrel length of a Crosman Storm that I have.   Not good for me to have any spare time as I will find projects to start.
Anyway , I reduced to barrel to 12.5 inches.   Set a new crown and polished the pellet breech port.   Installed a brake from Crosman on the barrel to aid in cocking and for appearance.
Going to reduce the length of the stock by about 3/4 inch in order to keep a  balanced look to the AG.  Trying for the look  and the length of a R-7.

Have shot the AG a few times and it , the chop,  has changed the shooting pattern and habits of this AG.   Surprised that it actually shoots better.  Much tighter groups and it now shoots Crosman Destroyers the best for group.  Turning in 3/8s groups at 15 yards consistantly.    One thing that I noticed is that now I need to keep the AG pulled firmly to my shoulder for best results.

Main reason for the chop project is that I want a AG that is easier to handle without banging into everything with an overly long rifle.

Excellent job with the "Chop".....I'm too timid to attempt that.  I've read that losing a few inches could even speed up the pellet due to less friction on the pellet (Less time in the barrel).  Most say the POI will change abit with a chop due to the harmonics of the barrel.

I've been thinking about chopping, choking, and crowning my G1 Extreme. May even do my EAA badged long barreled R9.

Jaymo, let me know how the chop on the G-1 works out as I also have one and while it shoots very well, it could be a little shorter in length.

Here's my Quest I did last month.  I wanted to make it C1 like so I chopped the barrel to 12" and cut the pistol grip off (piece is next to rifle and shows the original funky colored stain).  I was tempted to cut off the front of the forestock to expose the barrel block like on a real C1.  My block had wear marks on it so I didn't but I do think that cutting an inch or so off the forestock would make it look more balanced.  I added a spacer made from a chopping board.  I should have used a thinner board but I'm stuck now since I don't want to resand the stock.  It has three coats of Truoil on it.

Replaced the stock spring with a Tarantula which necessitated a new rear guide because the old plastic one disintegrated after a couple dozen shots.  I will say that a delrin tophat would be good because it is definitely louder now.  I also think that the seal had deteriorated as it has dropped a couple hundred FPS down to about 800 with FTS.  I tried getting new seals from Crosman but they are backordered.

Fun project gun that I bought for $60.  I think I spent another $60 on parts.  The ZOS scope is non-ao and optics are good.  Stole it for $20 shipped off ebay!

Phone camera doesn't do it justice.  In person the stock looks fabulous.

My 13 inch sisters. The only issue now is I buy more pellets to feed there lust for it's much more pleasurable to shoot them as before.

The Crosman 2250's barrel is longer than the springers
