The downward motion is pretty smooth. The return of the barell to the firing position is a little rough sounding.. Not smooth sounding like the HunterSport was..
If after cocking I move the barell up and down back and forth theres a little craping somewhere. I looked inside from underneath and the little black plastic farrell is on the tang. The bottom of the plastic stock has horizontal ridges running from side to side down the length of the stock. Im wondering if the cocking mechanism, after cocking, is dragging the bottom of the stock and running accross the "slats" when returning the barrel to firing position?

As the spring compresses, it also expands. When it is cocked and compressed, as you move the barrel up and down, the cocking foot/shoe  is rubbing very slightly on the coils of the spring. Very common.

It shouldn't hurt anything... just a little annoying. You can put a little moly or other heavy lube on the cocking foot and on the spring through the cocking slot but don't use any oil. It probably will not eliminate it but may reduce it just a little.
