Gamo Scopes
« on: January 30, 2010, 06:09:38 AM »

Does Gamo make good scopes or not? It seems the opinions are all over the board. I've got the Gamo Whisper with the scope that came with it, and I'd say my results, so far, are mixed. I'd say it needs re-sighting about every 100 shots.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I think its kind of a crap shoot. Like you I read the good and the bad here about Gamo scopes. My personal experience has been good. My Hunter Elite, Gamo 3-9X50 Mil dot, now about three years old with a couple of thousand down range is still going strong. The only adjustment I need to make is if there is a significant weight change with pellet brands I am shooting and that's usually only for elevation. Probably only a quirk with my gun but I do notice my rifle needs a few, I'll call them warm up shots then the rifle goes right back to where I left off.

I've 3 recent Gamos (About a year and a half old)....and their "Package" scopes/scope mount have held up to about 2500 shots.  After that the zero started to move....so all the Gamos now have aftermarket scopes.  The cheap scope mounts have held up well......still going strong, haven't moved abit.  While the scopes were cheap.....they were clear (Not as good the aftermarket ones) and responded to elevation and windage adjustments.  Read that some customers were not so lucky.

The used/slightly defective Gamo scopes I put them on <500 fps air rifles....and they seem to hold zero for the moment.

Gamo owns BSA. I think they are, essentially, the same scopes.

Based on what I've read here, I suspect I will, eventually, be replacing the Gamo scope I have. However, I've had this one for a little over a year and have had to adjust it only a few times. Maybe it'll settle in and last me for a few years. Maybe not. But when it's on zero, it does a fine job of finding tree rats, etc.

Of course, the other problem is, sometimes, I just plain miss the target. I guess I'm not timing my shakes just right. But it's always easier to blame it on the scope.
