Air guns and Archery
« on: February 07, 2010, 03:01:43 PM »
I would love to know if there are many people who are into air guns and archery?  I shoot longbows barebow every few days, and air guns as well.  I find that cocking springers, and drawing my48 lb, and my 78 lb longbows help help each other, they both build up the arms and make "guns & bows" more fun.

Yes Douglas, I love to shoot my recurve and compound bows as well as my springer. I find them similar in that they are both somewhat "hold sensitive'". As you know shooting a long bow, you even have to hold your mouth right. LOL. I haven't shot my recurve for a while now, thanks to you, I think I will get the old Ben Pearson 45# Cougar out and see if I can still hit the broad side of a barn. Got to find my finger tabs. Where did I put my arm guard. OH NO, now look what you've done.LOL!!! snookman

Don't get to shoot any more, but I was a compound bow hunter. I was able to shoot in my back yard, back in Michigan. There are some similarities to airgunning."Hold sensitivity" and the importance of follow-through are a couple.

I did shoot fingers with full sized aluminum arrows. Just couldn't get into releases and overdraws, because I like simplicity, especially in a cold treestands. I was able to take a few deer and miss that sport greatly.

I used to shoot a compound bow alot...from opening season to the end of the season (April to late Nov.....and I would shoot about 2  hrs. each session...at least twice a week).  I haven't shot for over 4 years due to lack of time, and don't want to drive a 1/2 hour to a range with more than 40 meters to shoot with.  There's a few 20 meters indoor ranges (School gyms, community centers etc.) close-by though.  At that time I was not into airgunning.  I used a release with my Walmart bought Bear Whitetail 2, and later on with a hunting shop bought PSE Nitro.  Only did paper punching though.

I shot a 45lb recurve as a kid that belonged to my dad when he was a kid. Broke it years ago now I have a 09 Martin compound bow. I haven't shot it much and hunting archery in florida is murder due to the heat. Gotta get in on the lottery for the closest WMA to me about an hour forty min drive. Then mosquito gear and flipflops to hunt in lol.

I'm a "dyed in the wool" bow hunting addict !!  I shoot and hunt with a compound bow, but someday I'd like to get into hunting with a long bow.  The deer bow season here on Long Island runs from October 1st until December 31st and I hunt darn near every day of the season.  Archery hunting and air rifle hunting are my passion  :)

I picked up an old compound bow off of craigslist three weeks ago and have shot it more than my airguns lately.  It's fun trying to learn a new set of skills, and it's a good workout.  I'd like to take a deer with it next Fall.

I would have to say that I began shooting air guns and bows and arrowsat around that same time.

Shortly after my father recovered his Benjamin air pistol from my uncle, he bought me my first fiberglass bow and arrow set. I have been shooting both air guns and archery regularly until 11 years ago, due to health issues, I had to give up my beloved archery and Trap shooting :0

But I'm still going strong shooting my air guns :D

Well, I shoot a longbow that my uncle made. I have a few hay bales in my back yard that I shoot. After I started shooting pellet guns, I set targets on top of them and made a second purpose out of them. Love shooting them both.

I just got a new handmade lonbow!  It is a 45 lb "selfbow" made out of Osage-Orange.  69"-45*-28 draw.  The bow is made by Lanny Taylor of "Taylormade Bows" in Wellington Kansas.  My first shot at 20 meters was a bullseye...I bought the bow, and a set of matching arrows for $200!  MY first Taylormade bow was a 78 lb laminated all wood longbow...I got a bow and Lanny got a RWS airrifle.  My second bow is a laminated fiberglass, and wood 48 lb longbow...Lanny got a RWS air pistol, and a Sheridan...I got a bow and a set of matching cedar arrows.  My third bow is a 69 inch 48 lb longbow that is a composit bow, Hickory and Bamboo.  I shoot archery every other day.  Lanny is really into air guns, and he has seen this forum.  If anyone wants a longbow, or a re-curve...Look up Taylormade Bows: e-mail  taylormadebows@hotmail.com   And remember Lanny like air guns!
