setting up for starlings.
« on: February 22, 2010, 04:47:45 AM »
This morning around 9 am, i saw a large flock of starlings in the tree in my yard. Today, i used a paint tray, and loaded it with dry cat food. My question is where do i place the tray? Should i place the tray near some low hanging branches or something? How do you guys do it? Hopefully in the morning, the whole flock will be back. Today is the first day in a few months i have seen a flock. Hope it works out for me. I haven't had success with catfood before, but i always place it directly on the ground. Maybe the container will help? thanks Matt.

Place the tray on the ground.... starlings are basically ground feeders.  They will of course find food in the tree tops but for they do most of their foraging for food on the ground.   I've also found that the starlings by me are most active as far as feeding on my suet cakes during the very early morning and then again late in the afternoon.

Let us know how you make out...

I'll keep you guys informed. I just finished sighting the disco in with crowmags. Put's them all in a ragged hole at 25 yards. Hope to try them on some live birds in the morning. The 392 is sighted in with h & n 12.75 gr. hollowpoints. I should put a hurtin on them in the morning if they show...
