B26 with reverse droop?
« on: March 26, 2010, 08:23:09 AM »
After playing with my b-26 with open sights for awhile now, I decided yesterday to mount a nice one piece mount and a 4-16x40 centerpoint scope on it . Problem is it shoots perfect groups 6" high at 10meters with the scope adjustment all the way down!
Is there such a thing as reverse droop? Using shims seems too excesive in this case. I am thinking of taking a spare 17.5 degree UTG base mount for the RWS Diana dremmel the end off it and mounting it on backwards?
Would like to get some ideas before I get to far on this one ... maybe someone else has seen this before?
I will also try another mount tonight just to make sure.  Thanks Tony.

Do you have a second scope to try on the gun?  Sorry if this is obvious but can you be sure it is the gun and not a defective scope? I have shimmed a defective scope before with a pretty thin shim and it moved my poi about 4", may not need to go to all the extra effort you mentioned.

Place a straight edge from breech tip of barrel and see how much the gap closes up from breech to tip and that's your reference to work with. This normally happens when the barrel was bear trapped. Can be fixed like above post with 2 blocks of wood in between the breech block and hold the barrel tip and bend it in small increment in steady downward push vice jerking it.

Thanks all for good ideas and support:)  I was up early this morning working on it. This was first time I have ever bent a barrel using a vice and a careful whack with a 2x4! I must say its not as brutal as I first thought and works well a little at the time i can now recomend it:) Now scope adjustment is about centered left right up and down. I shot a few 15 shot groups and took pics for ya'll to see:)
I will now tension everything and loctite screws and good to go.

i wouldnt have used a 2x4 tho. ive always used a pipe and padded the inside where it contacts the barrel and slowly pull which way it needs to go. you get more control and leverage that way. and id get the super mags zeroed and use them. looks like your best pellet

THIS B26 WITH REPAIRED STOCK
« Reply #7 on: April 09, 2010, 03:20:41 AM »
Tony,

Last night I got to looking at the B26.  (SIDE NOTE:  I bought this rifle from Tony with a cracked stock and a replacement thumbhole stock.)  I really liked the wood grain on the broken stock so I decided to fix it.

I first used my dremel and a HSS bit to drill two "wells" into the crack from the inside of the stock.  I then "filled" them with cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) and forced open the crack by flexing the wrist.  I also squirted some into the crack and wiped it away.  I then clamped it for an hour.  The trick is to use the longer set time glue in the green bottle.  The fast set gel is not viscous enough to work into the crack.

Once the glue had set I drilled a 3/8 hole from inside the action into the wrist.  Believe it or not the hole is about 4" deep!  I then sized an oak dowel by chucking up in my drill and sizing down using sandpaper.  You need a bit of clearance to get the epoxy glued dowel in.  I then mixed up some 5 minute epoxy and slathered the dowel and inserted.  It says 15 minutes to handle and 1 hour to full strength but I left it over night.

Today I used some bronze steel wool to smooth out the edges of the finish on the crack.  You can barely notice it was cracked.  All you see is a faint dark line that actually blends in with the wood grain.  Running your hand over it you can't tell it was repaired.

I aprehensively loaded up a pellet because I had no idea where it was going to go. Here's the first 5 shots without adjusting sights at all.

Next up is a recarve on the thumbhole stock.  Now I know why everyone is b!tch1ing about the high comb stock.  What were they thinking?  I would guess a good super duper high rise mount might work?

Thanks for the awesome rifle.  It really will complement my B26-2 from Howie Intveld!

More to come.

Hey Andy, You are very welcome, I think its an awsome b-26 too. Just not a project I have the time for. A really nice fix on that stock  btw,  it is a nice looking grain:) That crazy high comb stock sure does have  plenty of meat on it to work with lol:) Glad to see you enjoying it:) It was a pleasure doing bussiness with a fellow airgunner. regards, Tony.

Hey Andy have you seen SpeedTurtle's makeover of his B26-2 stock? It's turning out really nice.
