Challenge Time.
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:18:33 AM »
I believe that most of us air gunners have seen or heard about sharpshooters cutting a playing card in half or nearly in half with some sort of a " fire arm".
How many of you Gamo break barrel shoooters have tried doing this?    We were shooting yesterday and decided to try it.   Only problem no playing cards that I wanted to shoot up.  So, I folded a  piece of cracker box over and stapled it.   The " card"  measures .041 inches thick and 2 inches deep and  3 3/4 inches tall.  Shooting at a measured 40 feet.

Out of 5 tries,  the card was hit 3 times.   Twice, pellets skid marks were left down either side.   Once,  Almost a perfect center hit that left a burrow through the card.
Would have done more shooting but time was short and had to go to work.   However,  will be trying again in the future.
Pellet was RWS Superdome, in .177 calibre.  Scope is the Gamo 4x32.   Air gun was Gamo Big Cat with stock trigger.    Card was held with a clothes pin type clip that allow the card to stand upright. Black marker was used to highlight the edge.  And only the edge.

How about some of you Gamo break-barrel shooters giving it a try and post your results.   And list what you used, scope, pellet, trigger and AG.

I measured a playing card...it measures .011 in thickness.   So if you want to use it fine but if you want to use the folded " cracker box" at .041 inches that is fine too. And probably makes more sence.

Mike, I saw a video a few years back on the yellow forum where a guy did that and showed it in slow moting. I was impressed to say the least. I do not think he ever said how far he was from the playing card though. Keep trying and get adeck of playing cards from the Dollar store and have fun..:)

Ok I warmed up with Popsicle sticks then match head then to toothpicks then onto a price of paper the sae thickness to he naked eye as a card, I like to play hearts and only have 1 set of cards. Anyway it out of a 250 ct box of diamond strike on box matchs. Well after 6 shots I cut that sucker! I ran inside showed the kids and as usual nobody cared as much as me. But man am I proud. Called my dad and he said keep practicing. Lol well what's next?

All shots off of a weight lifting bench with preacher attachment. I filled a sock with rice and rest the gun on it at 35 ft. My gun is a Gamo Hunter nitro piston with GRT 3 triger leapers tactedge scope and I put a new apex seal in.

I love this gun. Paint balls at 25 yes are no problem. I need a new challenge. Matches at 25 yds I need some kind of stand. Tried it today off a 6 in tree and no dice. 15-20 mph wind is poopy even In a swamp.

The weather here has been so rainy and windy that I have not been able to set up and shoot between the darn rains.   However,  will give it a try when outside weather improves.
Good shooting on the match sticks DJ

Andy, excellent shot.   What was the distance?   And how thick was the paper?    The hit is certainly good enough to say the card was cut into 2 parts.

Also what pellet did you use and AG?

I felt confident that we had some good shots here at the GTA.

Check out my 10M offhand match! I'm usually near the bottom of the score board!!LOL I was using a Disco .22 with Gamo match pellets. I threw a few pointed ones at it at first but no dice so I changed to the flat headed match pellets and nailed the sucker! It was a standard gamo target which feels about the same thickness as a playing card and shot from 10M! Yesterday I did the trigger mod and it has changed the whole feel of the gun! I'll stick up the video as soon as I get some time! I think it was a lucky shot though! :p
