Well I love Sat. morn.,wifes workin, I`m free...was up early so I loaded up and headed for the farm to thin out the starlings, but to my surprise didn`t see a 1!Was about to say "lump it"when I noticed the sparrows were everywhere, and I mean everywhere!Walked the fence rows for bout 2 hrs.You know find target, shoot, walk, find target, you all know the drill.Well really wished I`d taken a cam. after about what I`m guessin was 2 hrs. I had almost filled a bushel basket.Still thinkin bout the starlings tho, this is the third consecutive week of 90 degree temps. here in Indiana, wonder if that has any effect on them,I know it does me???Anybody

Sound's like a fine day of sparrow hunting Barry except for the heat. It doesn't semm to bother me to much, it's been in the high 90's up here. I try to hunt in the shade of the tree grove's, maby catch a breeze moving through. Stay cool and happy hunting. Ed

Sounds like you had a great day of shootin Barry.  As for the starlings,  I don't know if the heat has a major effect on them, although I wouldn't see why it wouldn't.   At the duck farm that I hunt at I've noticed on hot days the starlings have a tendency to land in the wet areas of of the farm more than they do normally, indicating a need for water.  Perhaps the starlings in your areas have simply relocated to an area with available water???
Just a thought......

Barry, I don't know about the heat, but I've noticed a definite lack of targets... I mean, starlings in my yard ever since I got into this crazy hobby last April. Since then I've probably only seen half a dozen, and I would have sworn they were pretty common here before. In fact, a starling was the first kill I made right after I got my Daisy Powerline 1000 back then. But maybe it is a seasonal thing and they'll come back in the fall. Even though they're smaller targets, they're not as wary as crows, and I think I'd have better luck with them from the deck over my garage.
