Crosman 2300S Co2 Pistol

I have been wanting to get a pistol for a while and after much research I decided to get this one. Bought it straight from Crosmans web-site because at the time it was the best price I could find. It came packed well and encased in a dual foam box. Apperance seemed fine with no dents or dings. The plastic grips were the only thing that looks out of place on this pistol but I expected that. They do however fit my hands pretty well. Might go for thicker grips at some point.

This pistol comes with the Lothar-Walther 10" barrell, match trigger, and a Williams notched blade sight for the rear. I like the overall feel of this pistol. The specs say it weighs in at 42.5oz but it feels much lighter than that to me. The trigger is adjustable 1-4lbs pull, one stage, and has an adjustable travel screw.  Over all lenth of the pistol is 16 inches. A machined silver muzzle break houses the front site post which is adjustable for elevation. Velocity is adjustable 440-520fps. One powerlet will give you over 60 shots at a fixed velocity.

Mounting the Williams rear site posed a problem. It would not mount to the dovetail rail of the pistol. After closer inspection of the sight I found the problem. One side of the sight mount is fixed while the other side uses 3 seperate screws to move the floating blade to the dovetail rails on the pistol. This "blade" was split and bent rendering it useless and I had to sent it back for a replacement. A week after Crosman recieved the defective item, I got a replacement for it. Man....thats 14 days before I could try out my new pistol :emoticon: .

OK, new sight mounted in 5 minutes. Let go shooting. The bolt action is a bit tough to work in and out of the breech. Over time I feel the action will loosen up some. Loading pellets is not the easiest thing to do as well but easier to load than a CFX. I adusted for the highest velocity and sighted it in. Once sighted in (30') I started to have fun. Ragged groups of 5 started to appear on the shoot&see targets. Getting used to how this pistol shoots is a no brainer. It is a very accuate pistol. I then started shooting a soda can at 70' hitting it every time until the CO2 started to really loose power. Even then I just aimed a bit higher and could hit that can. Now that is FUN .

I did this review because I only found a few posts about this pistol. Although in my limited shooting time with this pistol, I think it is a big winner. It is extremely accurate, quiet, looks good , and at under $200.00 I think it is a very good deal.
Oh did I mention that it is FUN FUN FUN :p

Thanks gang. I shot this pistol with a couple of friends today and they really liked it. The word "FUN" was used alot today. It is nice to be able to shoot freehand from the comfort of a patio chair and hit a soda can at 40' and just pass it to the next person. If you cant hit the target its just not fun. This pistol is alot of fun :emoticon:

How's the trigger?  Will it really adjust down to 1lb?  
       These look like really nice pistols...too bad they don't come in .22.

Actually, Scott, you can almost duplicate it in .22 by going to Crosmans web site and doing the "build your own" pistol thing.  They don't offer an LW .22 barrel, and you don't get the adjustable trigger or power, but you can duplicate the rest of it for around $100.  If you haven't done this yet, you need to, it's a lot of fun, and the low price is a little shocking.  If you got that route, and want the Williams rear sight, order the pistol without sights, then order the Williams separately on the custom parts page.  I keep "building" one, but have never quite gotten to the point of pushing the order button.  CO2 isn't the best choice where I live, but I weaken every time I build one :-).  Later.

I actually did go to the custom page at crosman and played with all the options.   The more I look and read about this 2300s the more I like it.  It's fun to tinker and buy a 2240 and then a steel breech and modded valves and all that stuff, but it's also nice to have a decent package that you can buy all at once right off the shelf.  Do you know if the barrel band is metal or is it plastic?  I just ordered a marksman 2006 (beeman p17/ P3 clone) from cabela's and am going to try it in the silhouette postal matches this winter.  But I'm definitely going to keep this 2300s in mind.

All of the Crosman triggers I've dealt with needed a little tweaking to help them a little. The barrel bands are a cast aluminum alloy . I've seen some nice machined aluminum and brass ones offered aftermarket but those were $25-$30 each. The Crosman Custom shop guns come with the trigger adjustment now, which is really a sear spring adjustment located under the grips. The Crosman pistols/rifles are a lot of fun to play with and modify . Here's a picture of one of mine in rifle form . kirby

Hey Scott, I have not tried to bring the trigger down to the 1lb limit but I believe what Crosman says that it can. The only problem with setting it at less than a 3lb pull is that the pistol may discharge if dropped. I have mine set at about 2 1/2 lbs (just a guess), and it seems very smooth after around 300 pellets through it. It does seem to "loosen up" a bit as time goes on.

Congrats,
I've ordered two of the customs.
One in .177 with the cocobolo grips, Walther barrel and brass muzzle and trigger shoe. $157, Beautiful and the best shooting pistol I've ever owned.
Another one in .22 with a  Carbon fiber skeleton stock,  a 24" cros barrel, silver muzzle & shoe. $133. and So accurate it's boring.
I put my own scopes on.
Both have Custom Sp. Ord. & my name on the Side since I will never sell either one.
