Tuning a Whisper
« on: March 25, 2010, 05:18:43 AM »
I'm gonna get me a Whisper while those with steel trigger/trigger blocks are still on sale. My first mod will be a GRT3 trigger.  Next will be a Maccari spring and piston seal.  Would appreciate it if someone could tell me the model #s for the spring and piston seal.  Great review of the Whisper by CDT and GS, BTW. Mick.

Thanks. Tuning a spring gun will be a learning experience and there are big gaps in my knowledge of this "black art" so any help from you guys is appreciated.
It appears JM's site gives the following possible choices:

Spring: either the E3650 or New tarantula 33 coil
Seal: Apex small or New-Gamo Tesla seal

Which to go for?  A related concern is spacers. My understanding is that they may be necessary to put more pre-load on a spring.  Can anyone relate this to a Whisper - will spacers be needed, which ones, and how many to use?

An illustrated guide or better still a DVD on tuning a springer would be immensely useful. Is there such a thing to anyone's knowledge?  Many thanks in advance.

Bob sent me this info. when I wanted to tune my Whisper 177.       E-3650 SPRING / APEX SEAL-apv 65798 / heavy TAR-lht 432 / Moly-MM657.
You may want to compress the spring once to make it easier to install by using some threaded rod and nuts and washers. Everything fit and worked nicely.  Have fun.

 Rem.Vantage/chopped and tuned by me.
