Well I finally had chance to sit down & shoot today. 1st let me tell you what I've done to the rifle since the last report. I swapped out the hammer spring with a lighter one in hopes of getting it down to 38 - 40 fpe with the Kodiaks. With the stock spring this thing is a beast shooting the Monsters & Eun jin pellets @ a touch under 50fpe. At that level it was only good for 18-20 shots. With the stock spring backed out I got it shooting the Monsters 25 shots @ 40fpe. It was still wasting air with each shot but I couldn't back out the hammer spring screw anymore. Plus the Monsters were not accurate. This was all tested using a 2800psi fill. I also added the home made depinger that was talked about & replaced the hair curler type baffles with solid ones very similar to the type in the Mrod. It's just as quiet as a depinged Mrod now.
My Kodiaks arrived this past week & I hoped they would give a good shot count & be accurate. Well, as you should have expected they did exactly that. I can tell you from my testing this gun won't shoot pellets under 21 gn efficiently. I know it's made to shoot 28 gn Eun Jin & is a hunting rifle so all I should need us 15 - 20 shots. I get that, & when I go hunting for the larger small game I can turn the power up & be all set. Otherwise it's overkill for Mongoose(Hawaiian squirrels) size pests & birds. So back to the Kodiaks. My target was set up @ 30 yards. I filled her to 2800psi & the hammer spring was set to 1/2 power(tension screw adjusted to halfway) The 1st shot over the chrony was 848fps the rest of the string was:
852, 859, 865, 869, 871, 873, 875, 878, 881, 879, 884, 884, 886, 889, 893, 895, 897, 894, 890, 891, 888, 887, 883, 881, 879, 875, 873, 871, 868. Ending pressure was a little above 1800psi.
I lowered the starting pressure to 2700psi & got this string:
871, 869, 873, 876, 875, 879, 881, 880, 882, 885, 887, 890, 889, 892, 895, 898, 893, 895, 891, 888, 886, 883, 880, 881, 878, 876, 870, 872, 869, 866. Ending pressure 1700psi.
That's 37.9fpe @ the high end & 35.3fpe @ the low end. An average of 881.6fps & 36.6fpe. Now lets see how the Kodiaks shoot.
I'm not a great shot by any account but I was amzed @ how well I shot this gun with the Kodiaks. After sighting her in the 1st target I shot @ the 1st pellet went right where I was aiming! I thought I totally missed the 2nd shot, 3rd shot same thing. &^%$^ not another bad pellet! 4th shot same result. Shot 5 hit 1/4" away up & to the right of the 1st shot. I get up to go see where the other shots went & all I see is the 2 holes. Holy *_*_*_*_*_*! the 1st 4 shots went into the same %^&^% hole! my dumb ass choked on the last shot & messed up the best group I've ever shot with any rifle I've ever shot! I continued shooting consistent groups like that until the tin was empty. The sweet spot appears to be in the 800's to low 900's. I could never get a complete 5 shot group into one hole(like I said I'm not a great shot, only been shooting for a little over a year & 1/2. I think I will lighten the trigger up a tad more. It's already feather lite, very consistent & predictable. It adjusts well & fits my finger better than the Mrod trigger did. I would say it's on par with the Mrod trigger w/ a fit.
