Noticed something shooting my new chrony
« on: May 01, 2010, 11:26:19 PM »

I used my new Alpha Master chrony yesterday and put 4 different pellets through my R9 (JSB Exact, Beeman Crow Mag, Beeman Silver Sting, Beeman Silver Bear). I noticed the first shot of each new string was always high, enough to skew my average and spread. Is this normal? Should I put a round or two downrange when I switch pellets before keeping the shot in my chrony range? I figured out how to delete a particular data point.

It's not uncommon that when switching pellets, it takes several (or more) to get the barrel "seasoned" to that pellet and settle down to as consistant as it will be for that pellet. Both my guns show greater speed varitions and reduced accuracy for the first 3 to 5 pellets after a switch.

I see the same thing. Think it might be the lead mix is different for every batch. I fire about 5 shots febore starting a test.

Definitely.  5 rounds is a good buffer for chronying, as the others said.  When accuracy testing, I use a 10-round buffer, as the POI will temporarily change as well.
