I helped my brother-in-law make a Ghillie jacket. Total cost was about 35 bucks.
I gave him one of my old BDU tops and we stitched cheap hammock netting over the back & shoulders. We used dental floss to make sure the stitches wouldn't pop.
For the cover, he already had a few burlap potato bags. Dyed a couple of them black, a couple dark green and one reddish brown with rit dye. After they were dry, they were cut into 1/2" wide strips. He also got some brown, red, khaki & dark orange knitting yarn.
We didn't sew any of the cover on. Just cut the strips & yarn to length and tied it onto the netting with a couple drops of super glue at the knots. Once the burlap was tied on, we frayed it a bit. The lengths vary from a couple inches to almost a foot. After it was done, he put it on and rolled around in the dirt a little bit. Looks real good. I'll see if I can get some pix this afternoon. We tried one where we sewed all the stuff on, but it layed down too flat & didn't look very natural.
This isn't his, but it looks similar. His is a bit more "Poofy"
