The bait fish are coming in!
« on: May 25, 2010, 11:32:03 AM »
Man my true love is starting to heat up finally here in NC. THE FISHING! Me and my son have been pulling oysters off the sea wall and boat ramp in the back yard and smashing them for the fish in the canal and chumming with everything I could use. Its starting to pay off. I got home from work yesterday and my son was already out there trying to catch everything. I walked down and there were menhaden schools all up and down the channel. I have had a bag of dog food hanging off the dock for a couple days now with bait all around it. ANd now the good bait is here. I threw my cast net 3 times and have about 50 Lbs of menhaden heading for the grinder. Its a 7 ft net and on the 3rd throw I hit the mother load. Right in the middle of the school and I could feel them hitting the net while it was sinking. I jerked to pull it in and its like it was snagged. The water started flashing all crazy where the net was so I knew what it was. I yelled for my kids to come look and I could barely lift the net. I filled 2 large walmart bags and had to double bag them cause the first one busted open. I finally got my chum for my off shore and shark fishing. Just got to get my boat fixed now. Stand by for the fishing pics!

Right on!!!

Th anchovy have just started running here. LOTS of them from what I've been told. The herring run this year was pretty sorry. But the combination of anchovy and shiners should make for a good season!

I just read a fishing report a friend of mine sent to me and it's saying LOTS of Halibut are in the bay with Striped Bass following. I can't wait for it to warm up a little bit!!!
