I have used both CPs and CPHPs on California ground squirrels with great success. They do plenty of damage when they bore a 5.5mm tunnel through the brain pan, or heart/lung area, as that is a pretty big percentage of a squirrels body mass (I think it would be like a 20mm to a human, or worse).

Hollow points don't expand much at airgun velocities, anyway. I try to use what's most accurate in a given gun and don't worry too much about the subtler differences in wound channels in vermin. In dangerous game (including felons) it is a different story.

use the most accurate pellets for your gun, then use good shot placement, fuse box or pump house......

I use premiers and the CPHP's to hunt with all the time and they perform extremely well.  I've used both to take rabbits, squirrels and even woodchucks... they will work well for your hunting if they are accurate in your rifle...

CPHP ammo is excellent for taking small game. Pass-thru depends on the power of the gun and distance from the target. Here's a few taken with .177 CPHP anywhere from 25-50 yards with guns in the 925-1200fps range.

I have taken almost 2 dozen squirrels with .22 CP's (in the brown box), several G-hogs, crows, and a few Starlings all with great success.  I used CP's almost exclusively for about a year because they were very accurate in my 350 .22 and 850 .22.  I then switched to the cheaper CPHP's in both .22 and .177 and have stuck with them since.  

My Diana 36 .177 shoots the 7.9gr CPHP's at an avg. of 900fps or around 14.2fpe.  I took a lot of Groundhogs with that combination in the summer of '08 which surprised me.  I did not lose a single one.  As long as you make it a head shot, they are not going anywhere, whether they are G-hogs, squirrels or rabbits.  I prefer to use .22 caliber (or greater) though on raccoon, possum and fox, although I am sure you can take all 3 with .177 to the head without much trouble depending on the distance.  

Any pellet that is accurate in your gun should be plenty lethal because you can put it where you want it and where it counts the most.
