Which one to buy and why?
« on: June 04, 2010, 07:31:51 AM »
Forgive me if this question has been answered before but I need advice. I've decided I "need" another more powerful .22 gas ram rifle. I Already have the Crosman/Remington NPSS.  I've narrowed it down to one of these two: Beeman RX-2 or the HW90.Both seem reliable and of high quality. What do any of you know about the HW90? I've heard the power may be adjusted via a pump but is it necessary to do any adjusting at all? Arn't they already factory set to a specfic "power setting" and you need do nothing? The RX-2 seems to be a smooth rifle with no adjustments needed. Another thing about the RX-2, it's available in .20 caliber where-as i can find the HW90 in .22 only. They seem to have close to the same specifications. It looks like it's the same gun except the price is quite different. If any of you were buying one of these, which would you get and why? It'll be for target and hunting.
 Thanks....Larry

Basically the same rifle with different furniture. Triggers are not adjustable like the earlier models but its not much of an issue to worry over.  Caliber,...it depends on what you prefer. Pumps are available, and from what PA told me, they'll soon have the pressure gauges in stock as well. Both the RX2 and  the HW90 are leaps and bounds ahead of any crosman or gamo 'gas -struted' rifle in power and performance. Get one, you'll never regret it!!! tjk

I dont own either one but was lucky enough to tryout an RX-2 and it was smooth and powerful, I like the look of the RX-2 better because the stock color is different :)  I would choose the .22 as there are alot more available pellet chioces and better caliber if hunting :) Hard to beat german engineering and a Good choice either way IMO.

The RX-2 and the HW90 are the same basic rifle. The laminated stock on the RX-2 is a denser material than the wood stock on the HW90 and therefor is a little heavier. But because ofitsdenser naturethe RX-2 stock is more stable. It is also somewhat more forgiving and easier to shoot because of the additional density and weight. In the looks department, well that's a personal preference. And while I'm at it I first bought a HW90, which went to a friend of mine. He liked it so well that that iswhat convinced me to pick up the two RX-2s I have: one in .22 and one in .20.

Craig..I'm leaning toward the RX-2 in the .20 caliber. I realize the pellet choices aren't as great but I don't have a rifle in that caliber but I do have some in .177 and .22.. What's your opinion of the .20? I want a reliable gas ram and the RX-2 seems like the one.
