The problem with Fedex
« on: May 10, 2007, 04:28:38 PM »

Ok so you just put in an order for some pellets from Pyramid Air because you buy 3 tins and get the fourth free, not to mention we have that 10% coupon floating around the forum. Ok I did this friday last week. So I tracked my order yesterday and apparently my little box of pellets has been bouncing around Ohio from monday to wednesday. I am thinking it would prolly take less than 5 hours to drive from one side of Ohio to the other but hey thats just me. Ok so I go and track my order tonight and now my little package of pellets is in Portland Oregon. Ok for you that are geographicly challenged, the city I live in Texasis approximately 800 miles southwest of Ohio. Now I dont know about you but if I wanted to get a package to someone I would prolly wanna draw as straight of line as possible to that destinationfrom where I am. But not Fedex They wanna take that little package1800 miles to the upper northwest part of the country and then go backwards another 1600 milesdown to where I am at. And so far this little expedition has taken 6 days. I am really not impressed and quite frankly am a quite preturbed.

I know how you feel John,

Although I have never seen them go that far out of there way.

With me they either loose my package or destroy it !

Monkeys, one and all !!!!

I believe they have annual competitions, showing there lack of sense and skills.

Hold on tight John, at least they didn't loose you pellets yet, I hope !

I am not really worried about them losing them Bill. I am just a little miffed because I ordered them last friday thinking that would be plenty of time to have them here for this weekend. Apparently I was wrong. So I am a little... no make that a lot disappointed.

Your getting your money's worth in shipping cost. :-( .Think about it, ground 3-5 days , dems business days, not counting  weekends, you should get them by Monday or Tuesday ( 3-5 days) .   LOL
Always order on Friday or Monday, they might get in by the weekend.

John, I can understand how you feel, it should not take that long to get a package. However they can not take every package from point A to point B. They have to get all of the packages that are going to the same general location and then start delivering them. :0  I had an engine that I ordered for the kids dune buggy. It was being shipped UPS from Az. to Daphne, Al. all started ok, untill it went to New Orleans. It should have left there and went to Mobile and then to me, instead it went to Jackson,Ms. and was lost, no one knows what happened. UPS told the guy I got it from to send another one, he don't have one. The package was insured so he got paid for his motor, but I still don't have one. On a brighter note though, I ordered some pellets from Midsouth on a Sat had them shipped FedX because it was cheaper, had them on my porch 10am Tues morning. 8)

I checked the tracking on an order on Friday;  said it would be delivered on Saturday( home delivery is fro Tuesday thru Saturday) even said it was at the local facility, so I missed a weekend of camping and Turkey hunting to stay home and wait for my order that never came , until Tuesday. The delivery guy said it had been on a trailer on the lot that didn't get unloaded until Monday night. I wish Pyramyd would offer a choice of shippers. kirby

Well if it is FedEx Ground, that is contracted and  nothing moves until they have a truck full. Even when delivering to your location, there better be another few deliveries close by or they won't come your way.  I even notice when checking delivery on the web they will state "rerouted", that means delayed because nothing coming your way..   FN

I watched a news show on how Fed Ex handles all of their shipping and it was quite interesting and amazing.

They ship everything they receive to one main processing center, then, send it back out to the local distribution points for pick up by their drivers, for delivery to the final destination.

That means, if you send a package via Fed Ex, to your neighbor, right next door (which they did on the show), it goes in the truck, then on a plane, to the main distribution center for processing and tracking, then back on a plane, to the local distribution center, probably back on the very truck with the same driver that picked it up, out to the destination across the street. At least that was the case, in this instance, since it was next day air. I imagine this happens via truck, for ground, though, it may still go by plane, as well.

It's all about managing the amount of shipping they do and logistics of it all. It's cheaper for them to do it this way, though, sometimes, when the driver could have simply walked 20 feet and collected the money, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, in reality, it does, at least for Fed Ex.

Laters,
Tim

Hmmm does that mean that the umm central distribution place is in Portland Oregon? If so who ever was shootin their airgun at the map is hittin high and to the left and I think they may have a bent barrel among other things lol.
