Are the new "bull" barrels any better?
« on: August 14, 2007, 10:12:02 PM »
Hi all,

When I first saw the Shadow Sport with its plastic "bull" barrel and liner,  I wondered if it was any better.

So how do they compare to the usual all steel Shadow barrels? Obviously they are lighter, but are they more or less accurate?

As always the "look" helps to sell rifles and it looks like more models are coming out with the fluted bull barrel, so it must be a good thing, or is it all marketing? :)

Cheers,
 Daniel in New Zealand

As far my ShadowSport go's I've had no problem's what so ever with the bull barrel. Accurate, just take a peek in the Hunting Gate and my ALBUM. :) They are lighter which make's a difference when your on a long hunt, I don't use sling's and lockup is good also. I see you are a new member too, WELCOME to GTA  and alway's feel free to ask any question's or give advise, were all family here. Here's a pic of my ShadowSport/ baby in winter camo. Ed

As far as better that is still a question. Give them some more time and wait to see if anyone has had problems. They have only been out for about a year now. I have many Gamo's and my most recent Gamo is a Whisper. It has the plastic shroud around a barrel sleeve. The rifling seems to be more prodominant and looks great. My Whisper and the one Bob and me tested are very accurate. In comparison to the regular steel barrels, the Whisper seems to have better rifling.

This is just what we have noticed on the Gamo's.

I saw Gene's review on the Whisper (AKA Shadow CSI in other markets) and thats what got me thinking regarding outstanding accuracy.  Perhaps Gamo have discovered a process that makes it easier (and possibly less expensive) to make great barrels.

I've just got my CFX gas rammed and after finishing setting it up, I'll take a closer look at the Shadows...

BTW - great camo job Shadow!!

Thanks for the pic Ed! My air hasn't been working so well this summer so it kinda has a cooling effect.

just bought the big cat with the fluted barrel. i really like it.  very accurate and able to cock and handle the barrel without worrying about fingerprints or rust.  very sharp looking. waiting on the grt III trigger to arrive now.
