No more scopes braking for me

The other day I was shooting away and all of a sudden the focus went blurry on my leapers 4-16 x 56 OA. Turns out the internal Parallax Adjustment broke from the gamo hunter extreme kick. So it’s going back to Pyramyd for a warranty swap.

How would you like to mount any scope at all on your Springer without worrying its going to brake?

Well I have designed and built a working prototype that will take all the harsh recoil stress from these Springer’s off the scope. As a matter of fact it should work for any rifle. Basically when you shoot the rifle the rifle moves and the scope stays in place about ½” to ¾” of travel.  The next step will be to incorporate it all in the mount it self when I get a chance.

O-well the next day after I made this thing I found something similar called Dampa Mount but it will not travel as the one I made does and I don’t think it would work anyway because my scope is 56MM and heavy.

Anyway would there be an interest in this?

Ok, I'm confused by this. It looks like when the rifle is shot, the spring allows the two parts to seperate. What confuses me is when the two sections of the mount come back together it looks like it would act as a hammer as far as the scope is concerned. I kind of envision a pair of coil over oil filled shock absorbers that are valved like what are used in some of the better remote controlled cars. That coupled with a soft bump at the back in case of over extension of the mount when the rifle is fired. of course that would add a lot of complexity as well as look weird as heck... I'm just trying to figure out where the energy is absorbed.

The spring is just there to bring the scope back to zero and there is a little shock when they close up but I have a rubber cushion between them and a lot of the energy is not getting to the scope to begin with kind of like the old table cloth trick when you pull the table cloth off the table without any of the dishes moving.

Spme of us old guys will remember using the external adjusting target scopes...Unertl, SuperTargetspot,Etc...that slid in thier adjustable mounts.  OF course, with a centerfire, they slid the wrong way for a springer air rifle, but the principal is the same.  Your mount looks to be well thought out and so long as it repeatably comes back to zero, should be effective.

Looks really neat, Chucky. I've noticed on other forums posts about the same scope breaking for other guys, must no be as shockproof as advertised. Keep us posted on how this idea works.

The new scope will be here tomorrow and it shouldn’t take long to find out how it works because the other scope only took about 200 shots before it died.

Daved has sworn off Leaper's Scopes.. Guess he had problems from them as well.. I know he liked the Leapers Scopes very much untill they started breaking.. And some other members here have mentioned Leapers scope poor quality controle or workmanship as well.. I only own one Leaper's Scope but do not use it because it weighs so much.. Most of my scopes are Simmons, Bushnell, and BSA. These scopes I have put many pellets through the air rifles they are on and never have had one break. I own mostly Gamo air rifles..:0

Well I know it returns to 0 every time – here is a 10 shot group at 25 yards with this mount, extreme and 24 year old 3-9 tasco.

I would buy a better scope for sure if the functions were like these Leapers so that’s why I made this mount – I love this Leapers.

zguess a good testw ould be to clamp it so it can't move and then unclamp it and let it move.  Would take a whole lot of shooting to be sure, but tht seems the logical way to test it's return to zero.

From your posted pictures, it looks very good...and it's a nice looking mount.

I already know what will happen if I lock it down – the scope will brake.

But if I want to lock it down I just turn the knobs on the side.

So far so good after about 150 shots today

Best 10 shot group at 28 yards with the leapers.

So when can we look for you to start production on these mounts Chucky? Do you have an estimated cost yet?  This forum has one heck of allot of talent..

Gene I am still in testing but I don’t see any thing that could go wrong at this point.

As for production there does not seem to be much interest in this so I will just make them as needed.

Only one member has PM me with interest so I told him I would give one to him for testing

For now there will be 2 types and the design will be a little different then in the pictures – the front peace will be shorter for shorter mounting rails and less interference with objective bell.

As for pricing it looks like around $80.00 seems fare but I am still looking for better parts pricing.

Well Charles, I would be interested in one of the 11 mil X 1" rings when you get ready to make them, of course after you have got them perfected as far as design goes. Sure hope the person you sent one to makes a reveiw on the Scope and Monts Forum..
