So which rifle do I get???
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:02:08 AM »
Well I have been searching for some time and just don't know which spring rifle to buy. I have looked at the Gamo's and there are a few in that line but seems like alot of overlap. Looked at the RWS 34 in either wood or synthetic stock. Also after looking around this site I see some folks talk about the B-26. I just plan oin using to shoot target/plinking and the big thing is to cut down on the squirrel population around the house. I have an older Webley pistol which I used to enjoy shooting. As far as the caliber goes I am open to either .177 or .22 I would like to keep it around $150 give or take $200 tops and want something that is fairly accurate and of decent quality. I know the trigger on the Gamo needs some upgrading. Which I don't mind upgrading things in the future but just don't have the finanaces right now. Then again would it be nore worthwhile to hold off some and pay a little more for something that is better out of the box? Appreciate any suggestions/comments. Thanks

Id get an rws 34 panther in .22cal They can be had at pyramid air with a scope http://www.pyramydair.com/p/rws-34-panther-air-rifle-with-scope.shtml or without a scope http://www.pyramydair.com/p/rws-34-panther-air-rifle.shtml

Also add in some jsb exacts for paper punching and some predators for Xing out those squrrels. The jsb's are some of the most accurate pellets around and the predators usually have the same point of impact.

...you can get a refurb gun at a very decent price. My suggestion would be an RWS94, the refurb I got from them ($120, shipping included) in .177 is certainly potent - 970fps with CPL's. It's surprisingly civilized for the power level.

In my opinion, the '94 easier to shoot and handle than the 34 - and it's lighter and a good 100fps faster than the '34 I had a few months ago. It has a decent trigger out-of-the-box.

And if you still prefer a '34, they have them as refurbs as well, for about $15 more than the '94.

If you're looking for brand new, deals don't get much better than this:

The Gamo is also easier to shoot than the 34, and the power is probably a little better. It's also a lighter rifle than either the '34 or the '94, but the trigger is inferior. The Gamo 440 used to retail for something close to $200, if I recall correctly.

New Panthers can be had for under $170:
