hand experience...
I will tell you what I do.. I have 8 springers now.. I tend to pic one up at random and shoot for an hour or two with it. Then put it up and next time I will grab another. So on and So on..
I have learned to clean the bore about every 2 to 3 hundred pellets. I use a rod and patches. Also will use Goo Gone on the patches.. It is a great cleaner and will not hurt anything. Usually run about 10 patches through the barrel with the Goo Gone on number 5. 6,7 patches. I check the stock and scope mount screws for tightness before I shoot the gun. I wipe down the gun and start havin fun...

When I am done, I take a clean cloth and spray it with Rim Oil, (not to much) and wipe down the barrel and stock all over to clean off the sweat and oils from my hands..
General maintenance is like good hygiene..
