Came home from work the other day and saw a lot of squirrels congragating in my yard and the neighbors yard. There were at least 3 or 4 under each acorn producing Oak tree. The only problem with shooting that day was going to be the up to 30 mph winds. Pulled into the driveway, parked the truck and ran into the house for my recently resited 350 (new scope) and a tin of my favorite pellets, Predators.
Went to the back porch opened the door and eyed up 3 tree rats in the neighbors yard stocking up on acorns for the winter. Loaded up a round and waited patiently for one to stop digging long enough so I could see his head above the grass. Finally one of them stopped at the base of the tree to eat his retreived goods.
"Stupid Squirrel", "pop" goes the gun, "thump" goes the squirrel. I hit him center mass between the front legs. He fell over backwards, all four legs and tail twitched for 5 seconds and he was down for the count.
1 down, 2 more to go.
Next up was a tree rat moving a little on the slow side, which was fine by me, makes them easier to shoot. Squirrel #2 also made the mistake of stopping and sitting at the base of the tree to eat a nut. Again "pop" goes the gun, "crack" goes the squirrel. He managed to do a fast walk for about eight feet and fell over but was still twitching pretty good, so I decided to let him have another round to finish him off. A couple of seconds later and he was still.
2 down, 1 more to go.
Possible victom #3 was small and fast, ran from anything that moved. I waited for a half an hour for him to sit still, he was constantly on the move. Finally he made a mad dash for the road and disappeared behind my truck.
2 out of 3 aint bad for an hours work.
Went to retreive my kills and noticed something funny about squirrel #2. #2 was a repeat visitor and from the looks of him, he just happened to be the one who took 3 .177 predators a couple of days earlier. (see close up pic's of #2) #2 had taken two rounds to the head and 1 to the rearend an d still managed to escape alive. For those of you who do not beleive I have Ninja squirrels in my yard, the close up pic's should be enough to convince you that they do exist.
The red spot next to the wiskers is the kill shoot, the black round spot behind that is a shot from two days earlier.
