First Blood for my second 850 *** Warning Bloody ***
« on: December 06, 2007, 02:58:11 PM »

Well I got my 2nd Hammerli 850 shooting upat just under800fps (.177)nowand decided to try it out tonight.
We've had these bunnies eating the flowers in my wifes flower bedout back for a while now, I've been
cutting them some slack because... well they're kinda cute....
Anyhowtonight I got this one at real close range, no more than about 18 yards, it's about 15 to thefeeder and
he was over in the corner maybe another 6 to7 pacespast that.
As you can see the shotentered just behind his right eye and exited behind the left one.
The grass he was nibbling on was still in his mouth.... so he died instantly. He just fell over and went stiff.
Iguess the pellet did as expected at that range and speed (around 770fps tonight at 73deg)
Well it goes to show that the"little" 850 can pack a punch if pointed in the right place.

Great shot Roald, and what brand pellet were you using? Also do you have one of your 850's setup with HPA bottle in place of the co2 bottle?

Thanks

Thanks Gene.
The 850 loves Walmart Crosman hollow points, so that's whatI feed it. I think it shoots a tad better with JSB 8.4gr and Beeman FTS.
but the difference is not worth paying over twice the price for the pellets.
I should have used a JSB I guess, but I was interested in seeing what the cheap Walmart HP would do.I guess they're okay.

No both are still on CO2. I think I'm going to stick with CO2 on these. It makes them real cheap to run. 50c a fill, over 150 shots per fill. about 750fps at around 56deg (too cold to enjoy plinking) I got it down to 680fps the other day when it was 43 degrees .... I had to check. :)

Hi guys im new here!Ii hope to become a regular visitor and contributor

Great shot Roald!, enjoy your new rifle.Wish i had bunnies to shoot in my backyard. My neighbours live approx 10 feet from me, so theres absolutely no chance to shoot my springer in the backyard.

I have decided to take the plunge and Buy the 460 Magnum. When it arrives i will let you guys know how it shoots.
Thank again Roald for your input, you swayed my decision towards the 460 instead of the 350.

Hey Johan! Glad you made it here ;-)
This is a great group of folks with lots of good info and always willing to share it.
I'm glad you went with the 460, you'll not regret it.
It's not pellet fussy or hold sensitive at all. A very easy to shoot straight Springer.
Please post pics of the new gun when you getit too.
Looking forward to hear how it performs for you.

Guys thanks for all the responses to the Bunny post.... I still need a recipe though...

Easiest way to prepare would be to simply fry it.   Coat the pieces in seasoned flour and fry until golden brown.   Simple and delicious........I like to fry mine in canola oil with some butter added to it,,, seems to help the pieces brown up nicely.    Sometimes I'll add some rendered bacon grease to the oil,,,, gives the fried pieces just a hint of bacon flavoring.    Man,,,,, I'm gettin hungry just typing this....   :)
