Hammerli 850 showed up late today.
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:01:42 PM »

Finally around 4:00pm the UPS guy showed up with a big brown long box.. I might add that it was very well packe my Midsouth Shooters for shipping.

It got dark early so I did not get a chance to rock and roll but tomorrow morning I will be over at CDT's place shooting at something....:) My first impression is that the Hammerli 850l is obviously made in Europe. Good quality blueing along with workmanship of build. Very well balanced with a 88 cc Co2 bottle installed. And it is under 8lbs for sure. The front and rear sights arewell placed and very nice.I mounted my new Simmons 4X16-40 AO TT scope with an Accushot one piece medium mount. Since there will be no recoil to speak of I did not install the lock pin. The rails on the Hammerli are well made with detent holes ever 1/2" positioned for mount locking. I will get back and write a personal opinion review on it soon. Here are a couple pictures but I am sure most of you have seen many of them from Silo's web site..

Congrats Gene. I think you should have gone with a high mount though, unless your planning on taking the irons off. Looks like they will be to far in the scope and cause a blur. Be looking forward to your full take on her when you get a chance to put some lead through her.

Mike, I just checked it again against the light and for sure there is a dark blurr at bottom of glass. I will have to take care of that for sure. That is the first time that has ever happened to me. Most all my other air rifles I have left the rear sights in tack. Guess I will be removing this one..:)

Gene, do you think a high mount would be high enough? It looks like the sites are screwed on, the front would be no problem, cause I'm sure your gonna make a brake that will cover those holes. On the back though you'd have to make a full shroud to cover up the rear site holes. Of course for that you'd have to either notch the stock for the shroud, or notch the bottom of the shroud to fit to the stock. Sorry to be creating all these obsticles for you and your new baby.:0

Well Mike, I had already thought of the shroud. I did remove the front and rear sites last night. The rear site was held in by one screw. The new shroud I am going to make will cover up the front two holes on end of barrel. I could make a shroud that goes all the way back to the scope but will have to give that some thought on design. The more I hold and handle this 850, the more I am likeing it..:) Today I will find out how accurate she really is...:) She is 41 inches long and feels very nice on my shoulder. Balance as I mentioned above is good.

Gene, I'll send you an email tonight,or in the AM,I've got a couple ofidea's that may work real nice. How much room is between the barrel and AS can? I've got a shoot planned for today, so it will be this evening before I can draw it up.
