another target box
« on: December 15, 2007, 06:13:16 AM »

Well after Kliff had gotten bored, thanks for the idea.I got to thinking, what can I do to have something similar? I liked the idea of having some swinging targets. Since my neighbor has a vette, with a 7-8k paint job, I needed to have something around them, so wouldn't have to worry about ricochets. Well with the help of a fellow member, thanks again Gary, we came up with this. It is 4'w 3'h and has plenty of room for all kinds of stuff to shoot at. Right now it is set up with5 water bottles, 4 12gr CO2 cartriges, empty of course and about 15 golf teesfor paint balls. I am going to add another piece at the bottom, for some paper tagets and to have something for the PB's to splatter on. Gary and Charlie came over yesterday and it got a pretty good work out, the back is 2 pieces of 1/2"ply and none of the pellets made it through the 1st sheet, so I think it is going to work just fine. Now the 20oz bottles are very easy to hit, but the CO2 are very challenging once you get them swinging.

WOW! Now that is taking an idea and running with it. WELL DONE Splash.  I'd never have thought of the golf "Tees"  for paint balls, and big enough for the hanging targets.... I gotta get busy and build a BIGGER back stop now. Excellent work.

Thanks Kliff. I've still gotta put another board behind the tees, so it will be easier to tell how far the wind is carring the pellet and can adjust POA accordingly.

Hey Mike, I see you moved the C02 cartridges so they are not directly behind the line holding the water bottles. Good idea because I know you were trying to knock the bottles down by shooting the fishing line holding them, hehe.  Sometime it gets a little boring just punching holes in paper; however, it sure was a hoot shooting at Mike's place and watching things in that box swing, bounce and splatter.

Hey Mike, that turned out great buddy.. Very nice indeed..:) I am still gathering ideas and materials to build many different targets and it looks like I will have to add another one to my list...:)I want targets that spin when you hit them too.. In fact the other day when Bob and me were picking up his lathe I went through the trash there and found some great things to make targets with..... lol He told the guy he did not know me... hehehe and ran off leaving me picking through the trash container.... lol

Thanks guys. It was alot easier to build this one, than I thought it would be. Spinners are in the works to be added, along with some other stuff. I'm going to replace the bottles with some smaller ones, or maybe all CO2 cartriges. I'll post more pics when I get the spinners and other stuff added. Paper targets are fun, but swinging cartriges and PB's are alot better. Still doesn't beat live targets, but I need to leave a few, to repopulate for next year.

Hey Mike, I’ll be saving all my spent C02 cartridges from now on.  I also have a bunch of old golf balls we can do something with.  Seeing that I don’t use them for their original purpose anymore.

Thanks Gary. A small pilot hole and a little eye screw will do the trick on the golf balls. Late yesterday afternnon, I was shootin alittle, when my youngest daughter came out, "what you doin daddy." I gave her one of my scopes and she was calling my shots, until she told me "6th PB from the left" and 6-7 went down, "that's no fair your cheatin I'm going back inside."

Heehhhaahaaaa....LOL! Well I just about finished another box today... 4'x4'.... gonna hold hangers, spinners, golf Tee's, and even flat targets for sighting in!  I'll try to make the spinners tomorrow, and get some pics once I set it. Oh did I mention I lined the back stop with colorred corrugated plastic to contrast against the targets?

Ijust can't wait to see someone out do us both...with a 6x6, or even an 8x8.....LOL!

Mike,
It sounds like she takes shooting a little more serious than we do.  Heck, we’re just happy to knock those evil paintpalls down any way we can.  Now if you can just get her to do a little shooting I’m sure she would give us a run for our money.  She sure can handle that dune buggy pretty well.

Sounds like you're gonna have a real nice box, Kliff can't wait to see the pics. Gary, I've been working on her, but slight recoil of the springers scare her, gonna see how she likes the CO2's,hehe. You should see her on the buggy when there's enough room to open it up.
