QB78 (XS in UK)
« on: December 07, 2007, 11:03:58 AM »
Hello all! I've just purchased a XS78 (QB) with a Charlie datuna seal kit, these rifles are not that well known over here (UK) I was wondering what mods/improvements you can suggest? The rifle is standard apart from the seal kit, the rifle is going to be used a my main hunting tool. It's a .22 by the way, I'm looking to improve its power and accuracy.
I will continue to use the small co2 bottles as I am unable to find anywhere near me where I can get a paintball bottle refilled. Being based in the UK I will need someone who is prepared to ship the parts I need to the UK.
Many thanks for you time.
Joe

Hi Joe,
I think you'll find the rifle quite accurate as is but I added a small compact Leapers 4x32 scope which fits very well. I am quite sure you'll have no problem getting parts and with the strong £ and weak $ you'll be smiling.
My QB is a nice steady 11.5 ft/lb  when it was chrono'd recently.
Ian lamb offers a tuning service. His website is: http://www.qbtune.zoomshare.com/2.shtml
If the internals are polished and the trigger given a lube and cleaned up a little the QB becomes a much nicer gun and Ian did a lovely job on my one :)
Good luck,
Alan
It\'s OK it\'s just a bruise!

Gotta agree.  Ian is the UK Guru for the XS/QB78 and a more helpful guy you won't find.  The popularity of these guns is picking up in the UK.  At my club I've gone from being the sole user to one of three and I'm in the motions of acquiring three more for our Junior Shooters group.  My gun is also quite a popular loaner as everyone just has to have a go and see if they are as bad as the uninitiated say they are.  It amuses me to see the expression on their faces once they start to shoot with it and it's damned hard to get it back off them. CO2 has it's critics but given the right conditions and few simple precautions these are amazing project guns.  They shoot on a par with the Air Arms S400 - I have both and I can testify that a tuned and cared for XS78 is every bit as accurate as the S400.  There is a disparity in the finish of the two guns but there is also a disaparity in the price as well! Once the 78 bug has bitten the gun takes on a life of it's own as you acquire more and more add-ons, upgrades, bling etc till the gun metamorphosis’s into a thing of beauty and bears no resemblance to the original purchase.  You will never want to part with it.
