Passed on the 850...
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:06:52 AM »
..and already have three QB's, but wanted something quiet and "fun".

Went with the AirFroce TalonSS/Co2 in 5mm.  Been playing with it for a couple of weeks...nothing negative to post.  Not for everyone, but if you've an urge for a soft spoken, 10.8-11.5 foot pound rifle, it's worth a look.

10 to 11 ft/lbs???

I thought talon ss's had more power than that?

Have you modded it or something?

I think he's using it powered on CO2 instead of HPA. The power is lower. kirby

About twice that power (22-24 foot pounds ) when used as a PCP.  Decided i didn't have anything I needed to shoot that hard in my back yard, and the CO2 version is quieter.  There is a long barrel and PCP tank in the closet, I'll either get to playing with that in a few months or trade it off.

Know it goes against the grain of this forum, but I also de-tuned the AR2078 (.177) to 625fps for the same reasons. After all, if you own several rifles, having them all tuned up to the SAME use seems useless.

You're talking my kind of airguns

I prefer my airguns to be 12 fpe and under , so were talking 800fps and less . All of my rifles are shoot around 600-800 fps except for theRWS34 and RWS40 which only shoot about 50-75 fps more .  IMO that's what an airgun should be . If I need anything more powerful , that's what my rimfires are for. kirby

Where'd you get that buttpad for the CO2 tank?   Also, what does that adapter do to LOP?   I've got a Talon and a Condor and have toyed with the idea of CO2 on the Talon, but have yet to pull the trigger so to speak.

I'll take the barrel & air tank when/if you decide you don't want to use them!  :)

rob3dr:

LOP...Length of Pull?  I've got longish arms, so the on/off valve used increases the length past what most people find comforatable.  Without that on/off, the adpator is made so that a 9oz., 12oz, 16oz, or 20oz. tank ends up the same length as the normal PCP tank (those weight tanks of co2 all have the same length, they just get fatter).  The valve use in the co2 adaptor is a condor valve...need the big opoenings to move enough of the "thicker" co2.  IS NOT efficient in the 12" Talon SS...really needs a longer barrel to get the good of the amount of gas that valve can pass.  I've a second c02 adaptor that's due to get modded....not for more power, but for LESS.  Hope to get the same max. as I have now when the pre-load is adjusted up, but100fps LESS when adjusted down.

Buttpad is a 9oz. CO2 tank pad,  I've had it around from paintball, just cut off the top "prong".  Quick look shoes that they still make tank butt pads, they're just harder to find now that many paintballers are going HPA.

Sdale:
Already have a trade in the wings...guy with a micro-valve and a need for speed wants the standard tank, which works out fine as I've a need for quiet.

Have come to the same conclusion....I won't shoot game farther than 40yards, never had a problem killing squirrels and rabbits at that range with a 10-12foot pound start.  Evolution hasn't created armor plated Squirrels in the last couple of decades, but has created airgunners who think it takes 20 foot pounds to kill Sparrows.

Dang it... I need a new standard valve and the TOG is now defunkt.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to order another tank.

We didnt go away for good..... the TOG of old is now dead, but the new Talon forum is where it's at. You'll find all the Old Guard there as well as many new faces.
