bit of actoin in the back yard
« on: September 11, 2006, 01:13:25 PM »
Came home and saw a bunny at about 40 yards, down he went with a .177 H & N Barracuda Extra Heavy Match (10.65 grains) to the head. I shoot a Gamo CFX with a Tuna Tune and GTX trigger. The scope is a Leapers 6 X 32 Bug Shooter with sun shade in place and mounted with B-Square two piece mounts in front of a new stop (the Gamo stop had weak screws). The little guy came over to see what was up and he went down at about 35 yards - not much of a target for these old eyes and shaky hold in the offhand position. No way to lay down around here, too much Cholla and other things that bite!! The bunny took a second shot to quiet him down but the little fella took four direct hits and was still trying to get away and the first one was to the head!! Size is no indicator of toughness!! Note the pellet storage in the butt pad. I left the old Phillip's holder on as it is what I have used up till this afternoon to carry spare ammo. The jacks around here are very wary and a shot on a jack under 45 yards is rare near my house, they all have been shot at and got smart. The sound of pellets rattling around in a tin spook them every time (so will keys on my belt or anything that makes much noise - my wife always says in a nice loud voice as I go out the door to take a shot "close the door behind you" and off goes the game)!
