reverse pellet
« on: May 14, 2008, 06:32:36 PM »
Just wondering....have anybody shot a pellet with the skirt facing forward?  I saw some photos on Shadow's or was it Gene's album....I forget...and one of them had a photo of pellets shot backwards....and they really expanded.  I tried one in my Big Cat....but I was only shooting 10 meters at a soft target....so the hole made on the paper target looks the same as a regular pellet.  Maybe I need to shoot at something hard.....

Shooting at just a paper target won't yield any different results since the pellet has no resistance which it could expand against.  But if you hit something a bit harder, the pellets energy would have to go somewhere, and that would be outwards hence the expansion.  At least I think I got that right?

shot some rws hobby pellets loaded arse ways from my rws 52 and depending on what you shot them into it could make a huge difference, very good for plinking in a muddy field, no idea about their accuracy i just looked down the side of the gun so i would not miss the splash  :p

I shot a few today at a soup can from 3 different air rifles...they all made a nice round hole...maybe I need an even harder target.

No, you need to shoot flesh. Or a stack of wet newsprint. Or a block of duct seal, like you'd use in a quiet pellet trap.  I used to shoot them backwards out of my Crosman 2100 back in the 1980s. Up close, it gave me much better killing power on squirrels than the watcutter nose did.

I shot a rat in the side with a .22 Predator backwards from my Talon SS and it ripped the intestines out of the other side or the rat, this was at 15yards.

That darn Talon SS of yours will rip any rat's guts out...pellet in regular, backwards or sideways  heh heh.  How many rats you're up to now.....in the 200+  ....good for you.  I've been thinking about tip toeing into the "Dark Side"...and that gun's one of my prime choices....  But I'm also eyeing the AA S410, Logun S 16s, Webley Raider 10 and the Weihrauch HW100S ...all repeaters.  I've got money to burn.....someone hold me back!!!!

Jaymo....I like that wet stack of papers test.....I'm going to test it out.  Thanks.

Wet newsprint used to be a common test media for hollowpoints.

Shooting dabolos skirt forward to some small apples makes them explode (apples that is). Larger apples give you the possibility to recover the pellet, the skirt usually turns around the nose piece, excellent expansion and transfer of energy. I've sometimes wondered how a pellet with skirt at both ends would work.
If some is good and more is better - then too much is just right.
